How long does it take you to run 1 complete memtest? Also, what memory (pc2700 or pc3200) and how much(256,512,768 or 1gb).
The Adata pc3200 I bought had one bad stick. I was sent another. Memtest ran on OK 512x2 but would not boot into windows. Here's my results:
Adata pc3200 512x2=40 minutes 2.5-4-4-14
Adata pc3200 512=20:40 minutes 2.5-4-4-14
Muskin black level II pc3200 256x2=9 minutes 2-2-2-5 (this is in my desktop)
Is pc2700 in a noteboook this slow? If pc2700 is close to this speed, I will rma the Adata 3200 and buy 1gb 2700. Or,is Adata just poor memory? With no bios adjustments, pc2700 may be just as good.
Please run memtest and help me choose the right memory. This is in a zv5000z

Hi step-dad,
I think your putting way too much work into finding memory for a notebook than you need to. Just go over to www.crucial.com and buy some for your model notebook, they have easy pull down menus to help you get what you want and all that is neede is the make, model and aoumt of memory you want. Crucial has great prices and top notch Micron memory. Since you can't change the bus speeds or memory timings in notebook computers there is no need to worry about pc2700 vs pc3200, just use what the menu says as it is what the manufacturer specified. If the notebook is made for pc2700, then using pc3200 will just be over kill as the memory is still being clocked at the pc2700 rate.

Adata and Kingmax are known to not work in Athlon 64 notebooks. I second what bootleg2go said, though you might want to check out Corsair XMS-series PC3200 CL2.5 sticks from pcprogress.com. Kingston should work too. The lesser brands are hit-or-miss.
Sometimes memory will pass under Memtest but fail when both the CPU and memory are under stress. -

There was trouble with Crucial/Infineon PC2700 memory, I had to hunt down Crucial/Micron PC2700 locally. That was back in the bad old BIOS R.03 days, R.12 might have fixed it. The sync/async issue was with Athlon XP's, it doesn't apply to Athlon 64's. Check out those Corsair XMS SODIMMs since you don't like Crucial. I don't know anyone who's tried them in HP notebooks but they do work in other Athlon 64 notebooks (and Corsair PC3200 "Value" RAM has been verified in HP's) so you should be OK, but Corsair PC2700 failed with BIOS R.03.

Hey, How do you test your memory? I added memory to my notebook, but I didn't test it. Should I do it?

And do some kind of stress testing, like running Aquamark and seeing if the system crashes or not. -
www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
This is the link for Prime95. If your system can run pass a couple of hours of memtest and then a couple of hours of Prime95, it is very stable.
Prime95 is what overclockers use to see if their overclock is stable. Use the blend test. -
Do I need to run version 1.2 of memtest?
