Just had a massive trauma with HP. They made a mess with my order since the phone number they got and the one my bank got for my credit card was different. After sorting it out with the bank and HP....we waited a week, and after the bank gave payment permission to HP...now a HP supervisor has "banned me" from buying HP products online since I am a security risk! He did not want to say why or what this "security risk" is!

WTF IS UP WITH HP. I will NOT BUY FROM THEM AGAIN ! I CANCELLED MY ORDER....

I have also "been promised" to have this fixed in 24 hours by FOUR different people of FOUR different days

a security risk? do they mean financial risk as in they don't think you'll pay your credit card or they think you're going to use the computer for wrongdoing and are a security threat...because that'd be a really weird reason for HP to deny selling you a basic laptop!

"security risk......well my visa is actually a debit card...and there is more than enought money in it. Even the bank confirmed giving payment authorization to HP...but HP turned around and said I was a "security risk"?

It could be that I made such a mess with their incompetent phone-operators that they "banned me for life" from buying HP products online.

I am still going WTF mate?"

Sorry to hear you having such problems with HPShopping.com. I'm a bit confused about the card type. You said it was a Debit card and that you used it online to pay for the order. The thing is, in Canada, I believe you can't use a debit card to make online purchases, you have to use a credit card. Debit cards must be used in-store so that a PIN number can be entered for verification. If this is the same type of card, it's possible HP thought you were trying to scam them by giving a Debit card # rather than a CC#.

But I know how you feel about the overall experience, I too had a similar issue with Compaq's service (before HP merger). I ordered a notebook, paid by credit card and everything was fine. I didn't like the notebook so I got an RMA and returned it and was to get credited back on my credit card that same day. While online with my CC company to make sure everything was back in, they told me that Compaq requested a Pre-Approval for the price of the notebook. By doing so, it max'd out my card which rendered it useless. I checked with Compaq and they told me that this was standard procedure when crediting back to the customer. After a few frantic phone calls between my CC company and Compaq, the issue was resolved. I don't know what normal procedures are for returning money to a customers card, but I'm pretty sure they don't have to make sure there's enough funds on my card before they credit me back!

Needless to say, I guess they still haven't fixed all the wrinkles in their system yet. Even though I had this bad experience, I still wen't back to buy their products. The service may be terrible, but their products are pretty good.

You may want to give HP one more try, especially since you liked/wanted the notebook you were buying. This time, try using a real credit card and see what happens.

Well, here in the States, you can use a Visa debit card like a credit card, if there is enough money in it (checked with my bank and they concur)

The whole thing started when the bank and HP had different "home phone numbers" listed for my Visa card.

You should think that a honest mistake like that can be fixed....

    1) Place order on monday ... check tuesday and it did not go through

    2) I call HP and ask them why my order status was "payment not authorized - they do not know and suggest I call my bank

    3) Call the bank and the bank and they say the mistake is on their side (wrong phone number) and that they have given HP a new payment permission. They even gave me the "payment permission" number

    4) Call HP - they say that they did not recieve any payment confirmation yet.

    5) HP says I am a "security risk" and that I am FORBIDDEN to ever use the HP online purchase facility again.

WTF? Sorry, but with this type of customer service I cannot recommend anyone buying from them. The hardware may be cheap, but the service is terrible!

i'm sorry to hear you had that trouble, however I must say that personally i have had no problems with them, as have many other users here. Perhaps you just caught some people at a bad time and they were pissed off and didn't want to be there, I know my coworkers and I didn't want to be at work last week w/ having monday off.

    ok here is the answer.

If you go for academic purchase program you must pay with a CREDIT card, and a debit card is valid for all other purchases.

Bloody hell...what a mess for nothing!

    To Venombite:

In fact, even in Canada you can use some debit cards as credit ones. I have CIBC debit card without any signs like visa, mastercard or amex and I still can use it as a credit card online. Moreover, the funny thing is if you go ask guys in CIBC about it, they have no idea about such an option. :)

Sounds like they were trying to make sure that the actual card holder was making the order, people have had problems like this in other posts / forums but only when their contact information / addresses didn't match up.
