Tried a miniPCI adapter from DELL on my HP nc6000.

Same form but, the notebook wouldn't boot - incapatable. Then continues w/ "remove and restart." [B)]

Guess I'll need to buy a "compatible" card from HP-direct.

Don't the NC6000's come with the WLAN built-in? Is there an option to have it removed from the config when ordering?

I did a search for the wireless parts for an NC6000 (probably not your exact model) & this is what I found from HP direct:

    Wireless LAN
    ------------
    345640-001 $140.00 Mini PCI IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) wireless networking card (Worldwide, rest-of-world)

    345641-001 $140.00 Mini PCI IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) wireless networking card (Worldwide, most-of-world)

348276-001 $85.17 Bluetooth module - Does not include cable

    Wireless Networking
    -------------------
    325525-001 $127.00 HP W500 Mini PCI wireless module 802.11a/b/g - Wi-Fi certified, 2.4 and 5Ghz frequency - Maximum data rate of up to 11Mbps

325526-001 $113.00 Mini PCI 802.11b/g wireless LAN (WLAN) card - Supports IEEE 802.11b/g wireless standards, including Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) support - Maximum data rate of up to 54Mbps

These will probably be compatible with your unit, but if you can provide your exact P/N from the underside of the unit, I could give you the exact parts for your specific unit.

    Thanks Venombite (appreciate the reply)...

    I bought two (2) nc6000's...
    1st Unit: (DP894A#ABA) - 1.6GHz/40GB-HDD/ no WiFi incl.
    2nd Unit: (DQ880A#ABA) - 1.6GHz/60GB-HDD/WiFi a-b-g + bluetooth

HP's detailed specs listed three WLAN options for the "naked" unit:
    - HP W500 miniPCI adapter -a/b/g- (as you have listed)
    - Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 -b-
    - Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 -b/g- (NCIX.com lists for under CDN$50)

    Cheers!

Below are the P/N's & prices in Canadian dollars for the WLAN for your specific NC6000's:

    345640-001 $237.00CDN - Mini PCI IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) wireless networking card (Worldwide, rest-of-world)
    345641-001 $237.00CDN - Mini PCI IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) wireless networking card (Worldwide, most-of-world)

    325525-001 $248.00 - HP W500 Mini PCI wireless module 802.11a/b/g - Wi-Fi certified, 2.4 and 5Ghz frequency - Maximum data rate of up to 11Mbps
325526-001 $222.00 - Mini PCI 802.11b/g wireless LAN (WLAN) card - Supports IEEE 802.11b/g wireless standards, including Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) support - Maximum data rate of up to 54Mbps

The first 2 P/N's listed should be the Intel Pro/Wireless 2100. If you did get the parts from NCIX, I can't guarantee they'll work properly, but at $50...damn! Any part ordered directly from manufacturers are guaranteed to be costly, $50 vs. $237, but at least you'll know it'll work.

    [:D] LOL
Have the ordered the (CDN$50) unit.
It should arrive FRI, but I'll be out-of-town thru TUES... As soon as I have a chance, I'll report whether it worked or not.

    Thanks.

HP and IBM are evil about this. If your card isn't on the whitelist in the BIOS, it rejects it. Dell, eMachines, and AFAIK every other vendor doesn't pull this stunt. I'm really pissed at HP about this, I wanted to replace their Linux-hostile Broadcom card with a Linux-friendly Atheros and couldn't. Now I don't know what to do with the Atheros card I went to great lengths to hunt down... maybe save it for the first Athlon 64 notebook I can find that has a current nVidia graphics chip instead of the antique GeForce 440 Go my HP has. (Other than those two issues--and being atrociously picky about memory compatibility--it's a great notebook, but the sheer stupidity of these problems drives me nuts!)

Okay, the deal w/ the INTEL 2200BG (CDN$42+tax)…
The unit IS LISTED compatible w/ the HP Business Notebook nc6000's on the(technical) spec sheet available on HP Canada's website, but learned it wasn't after installation... my notebook wouldn't boot. A tech from HP support tried to help me for 45mins until another tech explained that the 2200BG was not certified for use on the series – certification issue nothing else… proprietary crap, right?

Anyway, NCIX was really good about the situation. Got an RMA and ordered up the (pricier) HP W500-a/b/g - by Atheros. This unit was CDN$122+tax.

So, just like the HP W500 in my other nc6000 (OEM w/ WLAN card), it works. [ ;)]

    Thanks again everyone!

So if I order one of these:

    http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product.asp?sku=2439144&jumpid=ex_r2910_frooglesmb/accessories

It should work in my zv5000z? There are W400/W500 drivers on the zv5000z support page, so I should think it'd work, but that's thinking logically [ :p].

I have a HP zt3010us laptop, and i updated the system bios with a utility from HP's website, and now my laptop willnot boot with the wifi card installed. THe wifi card is a dell truemobile 1300. After reading this thread, I assume its because its not whitelisted. Which wifi cards are compatible with my laptop, or can anybody tell me where to find the list of compatible mini pci cars?

    thanks,
    Justin

    Baggio79,

Don't these units come with wifi? Did you remove that option when configured?
You could probably get a similar card as Kru-inc for your ZT3010US.

What model? W400, W500, ? Is it an Atheros card or Broadcom? (It's probably the Atheros card I was thinking of trying but wasn't sure would work...)

Only that I'm surprised it doesn't work. I'm not sure what the model # of the card in my zv5000z is but it's most definitely one of the (hated Linux-hostile) Broadcom cards.

Hi! do u have any idea how i can buy the compaq blueooth module? I am using a compaq presario v1000, and i'm just dying for integrated bluetooth. I've checked out the service manual. and it is rather easy to just plug in the bluetooth module, if i can bet it.
