On most of the newer line of laptops all I notice is the difference in resolution and color quality but is it really worth it for the extra $125 for the WUXGA on most of the laptop models that the highest screen size is 17 inch?

Acer seems to have gotten 20 inch on their screens but still what are the advantages of this for gaming, and all other graphics related apps such as video editing, dvd watching, etc.

It seems like the higher resolution you get the better which would mean the WSXGA option on the newer line of HP laptops would be better for the above mentioned application purposes versus the lower resolution offerdd by the WUXGA. Anyone agree or disagree?

The higher resolution will give you more desktop real estate but it will be much harder to game at native resolution because the GPU has to work a lot harder to drive that higher res. It's really personal preference. You should go in person and try out various resolutions. I have sxga+ on a 14.1 inch and it's just the right size. It does take a little getting used to.

but if the GPU is a high end GPU then it would technically be better to have a high res. screen if I am correct

WUXGA is worth only if you have an application that requires the larger real estate of the resolution. Otherwise, I think that you are fine with WSXGA+. After all, the smaller resolution (WSXGA+) has the advantage of showing text larger in size and thus being easier to look at, especially farther away.
