Did Costco just bump up there prices on there upgrades? To upgrade to a 2.16ghz duo core proc it costs about $500 bux. WTF????? For the same upgrade on HP it costs about $300. Does any one know whats going on? These are the most I've seen for upgrades. This is the link for Costco and there:
    http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigurator.aspx?Prodid=10029570&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&model=EX177AV

This is the costs for upgrades at the HP website:
    http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto/computer_customize_components.do

Can any one help? Or know wtf is going on.

no one has insider information on either company. thousands of factors contribute to prices, but in short: Its supply and demand, which in a free market system results in price fluxuation. There could be statistic that say that people buying laptops typically don't buy this week, so they don't necessarily need to compete as aggressively. Don't worry about it, its really not that strange. Just wait it out...

I've been comparing the two websites for weeks and the prices are always up and down between each other. Either way, I'm sticking with costco.com simply because of their 6-month no-hassle return policy on their notebook-laptop/computer sales.

    Whow!

I ordered a pretty highly configured dv2000z about a week ago.

Just went on www.costco.com and configured the same setup.

Today, it'd cost $1695.99 plus tax
My cost from last week: $1,300.99 plus tax

I understand supply and demand, but that's a hefty increase!

Probably too many people returned their 2-3 month old laptops and got new dv2000 or v3000. Costco is clearly on the defensive about this.

I sure hope it's a broken website. I want the lightscribe option, but $173??? And the UltraBrite display for $185??? Best of all the T2400 can be "upgraded" to a T2300E for $223. Something doesn't smell right.

I configured a notebook on techdepot. It was still more expensive than HP but it was cheaper than costco. At this moment I reccomend giong to HP. Hopefully Costco lowers their pricing soon cause I want that DV8000t!

I'm told that for the time being, CTO are no longer available through Costco for HP laptops.

The Costco rep didn't know if this was temporary or a permanant situation.

Well, as of 7pm EST the CTO is back, but it's still messed up. The crazy prices are on display. If you don't select any options anything and click update prices the normal prices display, but if you try to add anything the upgrades are added with the crazy prices....I hope they get this figured out. I really want to order one of these.

Prices look normal again to me... In fact I just ordered one :p

    customized DV8000t
    # Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2500 (2.0 GHz)
    # 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (2x256MB)
    # 80 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    # Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    # 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
    # Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    # 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
    = $1,321.99 before tax.

Add tax but subtract $50 at checkout = $1,376.93 out the door then a $50 MIR = $1326.93.

Whew. Not bad methinks, after I bump up to 2GB RAM aftermarket. I'm also getting a replacement Dell (screen problems) on Monday. I'm hoping I can just send the Dell back and stick with this HP.

California..higher cost of living - especially the bay area(where I'm from). Plus an 8.75% tax. Oh man, I don't know why, I still end up spending a whole load of money one way or another.
