ive been browsing these forums for about 2 months now, and ive decided on the hp HDX dragon laptop. trouble is, ive heard that hp might release a upgrade this month. i live in australia and we hardly get lappies first and we hardly get good deals :(. if i wait, the hdx 2.0 will prob be available in aus about august, so i can realistically get the laptop around september.... that is, if hp drop the price. i dont really need the option for the X9100, or a 9800GT, and the current laptop looks stunning already. so my question is: should i wait for the HDX 2.0 or get the current hdx and get it asap? thanks

edit: nother question, is there any other place to get hdx in australia besides the hp online store? i tried shopbot, but theres only this tassie place

As always, if you can wait, do so. Technology is always getting better.

if you wait and the price of the upgrade is high, you might get the older one cheaper.

you would probably benefit from waiting, because they wont get rid of the old one until its out of stock and you will see a dramatic price difference. Just look at the DV2700t and the introduction of the 4t. the dv2700t used to be at the same price point as the 4T before its release. You will save a couple hundred dollars if you wait and get top of the line components.

Generally, HP Australia will attempt to clear out inventory of old stock by discounting them heavily towards the end of the life cycle. When this either sells out or have small quantities left, the replacement model will be introduced which is usually lower or equal to the original price of the model it replaces due to lower cost of components, etc. as tech progresses. You seldom see both old and new models being sold concurrently.

Remaining stock is sold through clearance channels such as eBay or Grays. Significant savings can be had there on discontinued or soon to be discontinued models.
