NYC Drifter, that is hella expensive! $$$ I had a similar config for the 3D. The only difference I did not get the 160GB SSD, just the 640GB HDD. The one thing that you are missing that you should get is the 9 cell battery. Help minimally with power, but helps more with cooling.![]()
Some people have gotten amazing deals! One guy used a $500 coupon because he had a bad dv7, so they honored that with his order of the Envy 17 3D SB, plus he added a EPP on top! That is one lucky .....But others are still getting nice deals.
I paid for my system after coupons/taxes/etc.... $1,809..... not bad right?![]()

OMG. I thought only Alienware owners overpaid!!! At these prices (>$2500) you should get a M17xR3 instead
Still waiting for a $500 coupon to pick up the Envy 17 3D SB for under $1200...

Where might that $500 coupon materialize jywang?
-
In his dream
I doubt there will be a $500 coupon until they are phasing out the Envy17 3D for something newer and better. -

Some claim to have gotten $300 off over the phone. I would buy with that discount.

$300 is obtainable, but I doubt you'll find $500 coupons any time soon

NYC drifter, where in new york are you located, im in queens. Well the real reason why I am writing this post is because I had originally put in an order for the Envy 17 3d, because that laptop i have to admit is pretty damn sexy. But then I found out that the alienware laptop comes with Sibeam and HDMI IN, something that i really wanted. So i called up alienware and configured my M17x R3, this is what I configured it too.

the total after taxes was around $2559. After some complaining and telling them i am paying much less with HP, i got them down to $1993.42 including taxes and next day delivery. My total with HP was $2052 with a three year warranty. The only thing is that Alienware's warranty is very expensive so the representative i spoke with said that when my 1 year warranty is about to expire dell will automatically start sending me offers that are significantly less then the ones on the website, and that i could haggle more then and get it reduced even further. In the end the Envy 17 3D is a great laptop but i felt the alienware M17X r3 was more for me. -

Well my estimated ship date is still April 7 and I've received no emails about a delay. I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.
edit: lol wrong thread I thought this was the owners lounge oh well I'll let it ride -
I just ordered mine and got a 29 April 2011 build/ship date to Hawaii, it flys all the way to Kauai and gets trucked that last 12 miles to my house.
I couldn't get the $100.00 extra off so I kept em on the phone for an hour trying to get it off and on and when it came time to ring it up I found out you lose the $100.00 instant discount on the 4 year accidental damage insurance and extended warranty.
The guy I talked to, Paul, in Boise Idaho said the rep and supervisor that popped on that extra hundred off could possibly lose their job in the conjunction with its use with the coupon code! Now if anyone really got that deal and wants to PM me and lets talk order numbers to see if I can just reorder and cancel my order... Oh yeah I'm all for getting some diesel money, It cost me $168 bucks to fill my tank here!
You know what I pulled the trigger anyways, $200.00 won't kill me because I make that in about a hour and a half...
$2,398.73 + Tax with Coupon Code: MU6192 Thats $1.64 a day cost for four years use, Coffee money...LOL
$566.25 I saved off list & $267.75 off of HPA pricing !!
$2,964.98 + Tax List This includes the instant $100 off the extended warranty
$2,666.48 + Tax HPA This includes the instant $100 off the extended warranty
$2,664.99 for the computer w/o extended warranty was dropped to $1,998.74 with the discount code MU6192
The end result is I got mine decked out to the Nine's with the extended coverage.

Snowman, I was in the market for teh Asus as well. It is a quite powerfull mashine and there really is nothing wrong with it, but for me the design killed it. Not that I hate it (I actually think it is quite interesting), but I am using it professionally as well, and I simply don't feel comfortabel showing up with a "I am a gamer" screaming notebook at client meetings ;-).
I have had my Envy for about a week now. I love it and hate it. As you can see on the other envy 17 SB thread, there has been some 'issues' with it, but there are fixes out. I encountered some of these as well, but over all I love it.
The design and feel of the chassi is just unbelievable. The case is actually metal all teh way through, way superior to the Asus plastic.
And yes, the 2630 is faster than an i840. I ran some test in between my envy and desktop (which is an i840), doing some 3D rendering and the envy was faster (though it has less memory, 8 vs 16). It wasn't quite 30% but a good 15% I would say. -
Why did this thread die? Ordered mine 10/31, should be here any day now.
-
congratulations! The thread was started to track Sandy Bridge Envy availabiity in the marketplace, and to speculate about technical capabilties. It wasn't intended not to track individual purchase deliveries -- general discussion on that topic is most welcome in the owners lounge!
Waiting for Envy 17 3D SB thread
