I'm looking at the HP dv3510nr available at Best Buy, and I'm trying to figure out if the BIOS supports Wake On LAN.

The docs on the HP site for this model has a PDF called "Setup Utility - Windows Vista" which contains info about the various BIOS options (why they labeled it as Windows Vista is a mystery to me).

    Here it is:
    h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01215575.pdf

On page 6 of the doc, it lists this under Boot Options:
    Code:
Internal Network Adapter boot―Enable/disable boot from Internal Network Adapter.
    Does that translate to WOL?

No, that is booting over LAN, different. It is similar to booting from CD, Floppy, etc. I don't know exactly how it works, but its not WOL

I was afraid you'd say that!

Is WOL something that HP laptops usually do or don't support?

I will tell you have I have done and has been working on all the computers I tweak. Boot on lan at or near the bottom of my boot order. I also have WOL disabled. None of my computers are on a network where files are needed and there is no computer access. I believe the WOL feature allows admins/users access remote computers when in standby for use. But then again I could be completely wrong.

Wake On LAN lets you turn on a computer that is completely off (not standby) by sending a special packet over the network. I use it to turn on my current desktop machine from work so I can then access it with Remote Desktop. That way I don't have to leave the computer running 24/7 -- I can just turn it on remotely whenever I need to do so.
