I have a dv 2000t that has a smaller hard drive and I'm thinking of getting a larger hard drive from Newegg to replace it. When i fist got the machine I created the recovery dvds from the instructions that hp gave.

Can I just swap out the hard drives and run the recovery dvd's to get my machine and Vista back up to where it was when I first recieved it? If so, will it create the recovery partition and do whatever it needs to do to get quickplay to work?

    thanks

That's the way it's supposed to work.

Your post makes it sound like its not always going to work. Do you know if this will install the recovery partition as well as the quickplay setup?

    thanks

That was not my intent. If you use the recovery discs, it will restore the machine to its original factory state.

i have read that it will only restore your machine to its original factory state IF you NEVER deleted the recovery partition in the first place.

No, it can recovery even without the recovery partition in place. I have used mine a couple fo times and the resotre discs are quite capable of returning your HDD to factory state with/without the recovery or quickplay(if equipped) partitions.

As stated above, the recovery disks will restore your c:\ drive to its original factory state. However I found it won't recreate the d:\ recovery partition if you removed it. This isn't a bad thing if cause thats what the cd/dvd disks are for.

Hmm...if thats the case then HP have changed the way the restore disc work. Older discs restored all partitions no matter what.

Well I should probably state that it didn't when I ran the recovery disks last night.

It might act differently on the Consumer vs. Business side of things -- the recovery disk recreated the partition on my system when last I tried (on an nc8430).

Every time I have done it, it has recreated the partition. As far as I know, it restores the partition from the discs, then restores the main system from the partition.

Just a quick question, does the dv6500t have a 150 SATA or 300 SATA. I looked at the user manual and it didn't specify which one it is. Also, if it is 150 SATA, can i use a HD that has 300 SATA and still have it work just fine?
