I'm going to pick up this HP HDX16 from Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147922 and now they are asking me if i want to extend the warranty an extra 1 year for 69.99 or extend for an extra 2 years for 99.99. Do you guys think extended warranties like this are worth it? I take very good care of my electronics so I'm not worried about accidental occurrences due to negligence on my part.

Or are warranties just a way for places to get a little something extra?

hmmm i think you should read up on the hdx16s more see what other users have experienced so far as in problems with their laptop. if you see posts about hardware problems or other problems that could happen to you in the future than i suggest going with the warranty.

but when you buy this laptop it doesnt come with the warranty?

It comes with a standard 1 year parts and labor. The extended warranty covers the following year and the year after that for a total of 3 years for 99 dollars.

well i suggest you do some follow up about the history of hdx16.

The laptop your getting is pretty good, the only thing i probably wouldn't like is the screen that it has, its heavier than the led and consumes more battery life,

and also i think if the hdx16 and i believe all the infinity display have a problem with dust inside the screen and blemishes that are caused by keyboards

Lol thanks but I'm not wondering about whether or not i can get a better one. I'm merely asking about warranties and if they are rip offs or vital things to buy. And i've read up and haven't ran into any blatant hardware issues.

i know your just asking about the warranty, it was just a suggestion if u wanted to save some money but anyways

well than its up to you :D if so far soo good i suggest you save your money, and also really look into the infinity display there are ways to prevent the blemishes on the screen and im not sure if there are ways to prevent dust from going into the screen and nor the warranty or hp will help you with the screen problem

2 year extension for $99 is WAY cheaper than HP would charge you. obviously, nobody offers warranties or insurance to lose money on the deal. if you take better care of your products than the average consumer then you will be a net loser in the long run..... even so, $99 is extremely cheap. i would go for it if you can afford it. you're paying a 10% premium for 2 years of extra coverage.

Yeah i went ahead and did it anyway. Least I'll be covered by overheating damage to the internals and for 33 dollars a year none the less.

I bought my HDX16 on Bestbuy.com and I was only offered the service plan online, that includes basic hardware coverage, is there anyway I can add or purchase a coverage for accidental damage?

I'm pretty sure best buy gives you 30 days from purchase to go in and add on a Geek Squad warranty, but someone needs to verify that.
