I was just talking to a HP cs rep, and he said that if I put in an external HDD, the entire system's warranty will be voided (Even the accidental care). That's a huge , and makes me reconsider dell much more.

Upon thinking about it, if I just placed the hdd that originally shipped with it, there's no way they would know that I was using something 3rd party would they? (unless there's red tape or something i dont know about)

They won't know unless you shipped your notebook to HP for repair and forgot to take out your 3rd party hard drive then they would know.

Just take it out and put the other one back in if you have to send it in and they should never notice. That's what I always did with my Dell.

Even if you do replace it, I don't think it matters to the customer service people if you open the case and switch out hard drives. I just had to send my dv6t in for warranty repair and I told the customer service guy that I had switched the hard drive out with another one to test to see if the hard drive was the problem and he didn't seem to care that I did that.

There are two panels on the bottom of my computer - one for the hard drive and one for the ram. They make it too easy to access it if they don't want us to upgrade.

I thought HDDs were user serviceable. What does the hardware manual say ?

I've had a hard drive replaced before through HP. They would send you a brand new hard drive with instructions on how to remove and install the new hard drive. They never made me send it in or told me that it violated the terms of use.

I don't understand your question. How can you install an external hard drive INSIDE your computer? Don't you mean internal?
