I am going to buy the dv6258se at Best Buy today and I was wondering if I should buy the 3 year warranty through Best Buy or HP. Which one would be better. I believe the 3 year through HP with APP discount is $189 and $249 through Best Buy. Let me know.

I would get the cheaper HP warranty. BestBuy/CompUSA/CircuitCity warranties are insanely expensive. They just rip you off.
-
that's what i was thinking as well. thanks for your input.

I'm speaking from experience: BB does not honor their warranty the way they should. They had my old notebook for 6 weeks and didn't even solve the problem.

As a Best Buy employee, it actually varies depending upon your store from what I've seen. I've worked at two different stores and have seen various levels of service and different "extents" that Geek Squad will go to fix the laptop. We have several different plans too, mind you -
-Regular
-Covers wear and tear
-Power surges
-Replace battery once during the course of the 1,2,3 years.
-ADH
-Same as regular but we will cover Accidental Damage Handling, where we will try to fix/replace any hardware that gets damaged due to accidental damage and handling.
We also offer on site, where Geek Squad can arrive to see if they can fix it right then and there.
Granted, I myself do not buy our own warranties when I buy from Best Buy, but I just wanted to give some more detail. -
costco has a free 2-year warranty.

Good advice thus far, definitely get the HP warranty and accidental coverage doesn't hurt I got that myself.

Can you buy the warranty after you've bought the laptop?
-
At BB, I don't think so but feel free to correct me. HP gives you either 30 or 90 days to extend it at least, but I'm not sure which. I think 90 but I'd call to confirm.
-
You have up to 14 days from the date of purchase to add on the warranty.

With HP's consumer PCs you can add the warranty up to a year later, you just have to do it before your original 1 year warranty expires, it may be different on business line notebooks however.
The dv6258se is a consumer line notebook.
