    Hello,

is there something you can do to stop or to reverse the wear of the touchpad (keyboard as well) of a HP nw9440 - apart from not using it?

Do your touchpads also look like the one in the picture?

    Thanks.

You could swap the sticker. also put a clear protector over it.

Swapping the sticker - What do you mean with "sticker"?

Protector - do you mean something like Brando? I have never seen something like that for a notebook. Where can you buy that? Do you have to press stronger for moving the mouse cursor?

IMO, a worn out touchpad and keyboard on a perfectly running notebook shows that your notebook is durable and reliable. So i wouldn't worry about that. Anyway, the worn out effect looks great for me :) i'm not kidding you

you can just replace them for cheap, just like keyboards :)

alternatively, you can put a clear protective sheet or use an external mouse

My keyboard turns like that too after a year, but the touchpad is still intact. Perhaps use the pointstick?

I can buy the pad from HP without the buttons and the fingerprint sensor? Can I replace that on my own; is there a guide on the HP website? I hope, I don't lose the warranty then.

Using an external mouse is the best ergonomic solution.
Before using a protective sheet, I should replace the pad cause the look is what irritates me. ;)

    You're right about the durability.
About the worn out effect looking great, there I have to work on me. ;)

Yeah I often use the stick.
It's just the look what bothers me. And you can't stop using the keyboard when travelling.

you could try to ask hp if they still have some stock of the keyboard for your notebook model

What do I have to do to change the keyboard and the pad? Is there an instruction from HP on the web?

    heres the service manual.

    http://pdftown.net/nb/c01058816.pdf

shouldnt be too hard, aslong as you follow the instructions step by step.

EDIT: just read the manual, its quite easy. You just have to take out the keyboard and a few screws. See section 5.13 of the manual. Only 1 screw is holding the touchpad lol

    Thank you very much.

So it does not seem possible to just change the pad itself. The touchpad assembly needs to be changed as a whole.

I will check what a new touchpad would cost and then decide if I can be pleased with bulik's point of view.
