Exchanged my HP G6 3 times before getting this one and it actually seems to finally be working perfectly except for one thing, the webcam. The webcam runs at around 5 FPS for some reason. The exact same laptop before this didn't have this problem. Is there any way to fix it or is it in the hardware? Is it worth exchanging for again at Best Buy, considering this is my third exchange-laptop?

If the webcam is HP TrueVision HD, open your messenger (i.e. skype), Tools>Options>Video settings. In this window press webcam settings>Camera Control tab. Untick Low Light Compensation. The reason it is slow is because you have low lighting, in this case HP tries to brighten it automatically.

Still just as laggy. Last laptop's webcam wasn't slow. Is this because of build inconsistency?

I don't think that it is possible that camera's 5 FPS is caused by mechanical issue. It shouldn't even work, IMO, if that would be the case. Have you tried to use the webcam in bright conditions? Does it get better?

Whoa, the webcam seems to be working flawlessly when there's a lot of light around. Why does it slow down when there is lack of light though?

Well, it should be like I said in the previous post. Do you have HP's webcam software? Something like Cyberlink webcam? You should find more options including low light compensation disabling in that program.

I did disable light compensation using Skype. It had no effect. Being in a brightly lit room fixes the problem, it seems.

Hi there, i had the same problem, but no more.. All i did was:

Open Skype->tools->options->video settings-> web cam settings. Than click the tab ''Video Proc Amp'' and set the White Balance to AUTO. Next click the Tab ''Camera Control'', and also set the Exposure to AUTO. And all works perfect now !!

Now this worked for me, hope it helps somebody...

    bye
