Do you peel off the piece of transparent plastic that protects the lid of your notebook during shipping? I've seen a lot of people walk around with HP laptops that still have that piece of plastic attached, so I'm just wondering.

I kept it on for a while on my DV5, until it peeled off a bit at the edges and started gathering dust. Then i got it off.

Yes; it comes off eventually anyway, so what's the point in leaving it on?

I like long walks on the beach after sunset.

I left mine on originally as well.

No point in having it. Too bad Speck doesn't make products for all HP notebooks. Only the dv6000-dv6700 series.

I've had my dv5t since last December, and yep, I still keep the plastic on the lid -- except when I'm traveling. The plastic has gotten fairly dusty/raggedy looking, but I like that it protects my top from all the knicks and scratches (its going to get eventually anyway) -- but at least, after almost 10 months, it still looks brand new. The plastic doesn't cover all the edges though, so I still have to be somewhat careful.

Geez, yes I took mine off before even using it.

If one is that concerned about scratches, then a laptop is not for you...

Some people just consider the laptop a computing machine. Others consider laptops like powerful pieces of art. You admire the portability and the performance and I admire the detail, appeal and overall experience. We try to preserve every aspect lol.

I don't know lol. I just hate when I get scratches on mine.

This is strange. Many people said no in the thread, but everyone voted yes.

    So which is it?

I don't really agree with that, i'd say, if you're concerned with scratches, a Pocket PC is not for you. :p

I keep mine on till it peels off on its own. If you ever needed to sell it few months down the track, having it there is a plus for resale

    Lovely! ...

Don't get me wrong, I died when I found a scratch on my DV7, near the edge of the LCD cover, but like a new car, once the first one is there ... I do take good care of it, I just don't see if it is a "piece of art" that one leaves the plastic wrap on.

I got my DV& in part for the bronze, and for the design on it as well. :)

What 'cool skin' are you referring to? That sounds intriguing. . .
