When i open RMCLOCK and look under the general tab, where it says cpu load and os load, i'm getting some funny readings.

The CPU load bounces constantly anywhere from like 7% to 76%. i dont remember it being that way before...

the OS load stays flatlined at 0%, maybe popping up to like 1% or 2%.

these readings are of course while i'm doing absolutely nothing.

Now, my task manager says the CPU usage is either 0% or 1%.

my question is, why the heck does rmclock say my cpu load is so bonkers?

I upgraded my ram yesterday to 2GB of 667mhz. i used to have 1gb 533, and 512 667. i dont really think that has anything to do with anything.

and with the ram, i also did a clean XP pro install. nothing out of the ordinary of my usual method.

I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that the cpu load never bounced all crazy like that.

Can someone tell me what yours looks like, when you're not doing anything?

i'm really curious to see if its just my imagination.

You are only using P-states right?

i only use rmclock to occasionally check what my processor temp is. whatever the default setup for rmclock is, is exactly how i have it. i havent touched any settings.

A funny thing i just noticed, if i plug in any usb device the cpu load falls to about 7-9% and stays there.

    very weird.

I had similar things when the Quickplay service is in task list. RMClock will always show full gauge when there is really nothing running.

Hi, I saw similar behavior on my 9000 series running vista, when the power setting for the cpu in control panel was not set on 100%, RMClock would bounce on one of the cores exactly as you said. On XP, maybe you can try to select different power schemes and see how it reacts..
