My two-year old daughter threw a bowl at my laptop, leaving a little black scratch near the touch pad. The computer instantly went off and I couldn't turn it back on for about 15 minutes until I took out the battery and it turned on fine. I then put the battery back in and it seems fine. What happened? I was worried the impact fried something, but it doesn't seem to be case...any ideas?

p.s. I posted this here because it is an HP Pavilion...what forum is appropriate for this type of question?

    She knocked the battery loose?

The harddrive sits just to the side of the touchpad - maybe the bowl jostled it somehow and the computer shut down? Count yourself lucky that your daughter didn't hit the screen!

Lithus, she did not knock the battery loose--it was snug. The computer just turned off and stayed off for about 15 minutes until I pulled the battery out.

DPM, that could be it...obviously something strange and rather random happened. I'm just trying to figure out WHAT.
