Im not a gamer, but I picked up BF2 because everyone was talking about it (and it only being $10 helped). I installed it and before I played it I had an ingenious idea of hooking it up to my big tv (which is awesome). After playing it awhile I disconnected the vga cord to my tv to play it on the laptop's screen...and it didnt work. I kept on trying and trying and it wouldnt work. I hooked up the big tv again and it worked fine (as long as that was the only monitor going)
Anyone having the same problem? Anyone know whats going on?

You probably need to restart the game. Also, I believe the "Fn+F4" combination will switch the screen modes around...try that too.

I exited the game out, put the laptops display back as default, started the game and it flashed black for a second than went back to the desktop. Thats all it does. I've never heard of this sort of problem before and it doesnt make any sense what so ever

im not sure if this will help but this thread offers a vista update
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=152511

one of the issues it fixes is
    • The screen goes blank after an external display device that is connected to the computer is turned off. For example, this problem may occur when a projector is turned off during a presentation.

im not sure if that is exactly your problem but maybe this will work if not at least you updated vista anyway lol

I'd cycle through the Fn+F4 options. That always seems to set things right when I'm watching TV on a regular television and I lose a my display after disconnecting it.

I tried the Fn+F4 cycling and I installed those updates and it still only plays on an external monitor. Thanks for your help though

can this problem be caused by the refresh rate on the laptops screen? The games lowest rate is 60 while the screen only runs at 59...could that be the problem?

I don't know about that... But have you gone into the Display properties to verify that only one moniter is selected? Perhaps its not reverting back automatically?

Yeah, theres only one monitor selected. Its weird, I can play other games just fine and then pop in BF2 and it goes kahookie and doesnt work.

ok so i think the problem is the refresh rate. My laptop screen is at 59hz max and my tv is at 60hz min. I cant play BF2 because its lowest setting is 60hz, and I cant play Halo (yeah, I'm lame) on the big tv because its at 59max...so yeah, problem solved? I think so. JOr im completely wrong. either way, Thanks for your help!
