I purchased a V2710 Compaq Presario in Canada and asked specifically about the warranty as I was moving to Spain with it. I was told..."yeah, it's global" by the sales man at Staples. Well, after 4 months the USB port went, requiring a motherboard, then the screen went...gradully fading out to the rather appealing colour of white, which now requires a new screen and now the hard drive crashed and I had to replace that yesterday.
So what's the problem you ask? Well, while this computer is under warranty I CANNOT get it fixed with HP! I spoke with HP in Spain, and "Yeah we have a global warranty but don't have the parts in Spain for that model" HUH??? Then HOW is this a global warranty????
I HAVE to ship it back to Canada at my expense (169 euros) and have it repaired, then they will ship it to someone in Canada who then has to reship it to me.
So? What EXACTLY are my chances of ever seeing this computer again? And if so, before the next millenium? Well I pondered this as well.
So, to date I spent 100 euros on a new hard drive, bought an external monitor for 25 euros (you know one of them old big ones..so now it's really NOT protable) so I could actually see what I was typing, and can only use one port.
Lovely!
Here's the best part! When I took the computer in to have the hard drive replaced...gues what I saw? MY model computer! Being used by the technicians in the store! Yup...turns out the parts ARE available in Spain.
But...dealing with HP Tech/Customer support in Canada and Spain, by phone and email has been HELL!!
So? I am gonna phone the VP in Canada and give him HELL!
DON"T buy a Compaq Presario!! It might not work after 4 months and then you can enter the doors of HP hell. ANd if you do...hey...DON't leave home with it!! So much for portability.
Does ANYONE have any suggestions before I throw this thing against the wall?? Or go broke repairing it?
Cheers form Spain

Sorry for you ordeal but consumer notebooks do not have global warranties. Only business models do.
You can keep pressing your demand with HP Spain and go to higher and higher levels but.... -
just keep being a B**** and calling them like 5 times a day and screaming lol, they cant put up with you forever.

I think Staples can actually cover the sending shipping costs. And then HP should handle the coming back ones... Not sure, might want to check this out.
If you raise enough of a fuss with either Staples or HP, they will do it your way. -
There are many posts that covers this exact situation. There is even a person from Canada trying to acquire a U.S. Version. They do not have the part in Spain as they do not sale a Canadian model. He/She said is just hearsay. Research is worth everything, knowing all the facts priceless. Lesson learned, I hope. Hopefully next time you will do your research before spending all that money first.

Going by what the OP said, the guy in Staples lied/didn't know his arse from his elbow. So Staples should have to sort all of this out. Sadly, that is very unlikely since the OP mostly likely doesn't have proof of what was said. As for HP, yes they're BSing about the parts, but in this case it's not HP's fault that someone in Staples doesn't know facts.
When buying from a shop, and there is no real material to read unless you open the box, have it put down in writing and signed before you pay. That way, if some dimwit tells you an incorrect thing, the company still has to follow through.
Welcome to HP Compaq HELL!!
