I went ahead and finally ordered a dv9000t. I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival (supposed shipdate is 3/14 - damn I wish it was sooner!).

The purchase was done through costco since I heard that HP's own support is pretty bad. Costco apparently gives free 2 year extended warranties now on products along with technical support (although they reduced their return policy to 90 days from the previous 6 months for computers).

Hoping that I enjoy this laptop but if things don't work out I guess there is always the return policy. Honestly, the only thing I see making me return it is if I can't get rid of the reported high pitched noise I read about on here and/or if it has constant issues in some other way.

Anyways, thanks to everyone's posts on here and the reviews for the laptop. I never would have even thought of HP for laptops if not for the articles I came across. Also - has anyone actually tried using Costco for technical support at all? How are they to deal with? Thanks.

This issue is not specific to HP or any particular brand. Search the forums and you will see this buzzing issue on laptops from other brands as well. For now it seems there isnt much one can do get rid of it other than disabling sm power saving features on the cpu. Hopefully your system would not have this issue.

May I ask what buzzing issue y'all are talking about? My dv9230us hasn't had any buzzing noises coming from it.

Maybe I dodged a bullet or something. :p

Honestly, I've had two HP systems fail on me in less than a year. If you can, cancel your order before you get charged and order something from a better manufacturer. Apple, Dell, and Gateway are all better than HP.

Yup, that must be the reason why HP outsold all 3 manufacturers  Just because you had a bad experience doesnt mean a manufacturer isnt upto par.

To be honest, I am slightly nervous after reading some horror stories on here, but I just kind of reassure myself that all manufacturers must have issues.

Plus one of the things I've come to realize is that the minority of users are always more vocal on the net than the majority, so I'm hoping that the majority of these machines are good to go :). We shall see though but thanks for the warning!

Congratulations on ordering your new lappy. I have a dv6000t version which replaced a problem-free HP Pavilion notebook I had for four years. I predict you will find you made a wise purchase.

You stated you had 1 fail and got a loaner that was bad. But the loaner had a bad DVD drive right? If I am not badly mistaken, HP doesn't make their own drives. Mine has a Toshiba drive in it, and it is screaming fast and verification scans of burned DVDs come out awfully close to my Plextor, so I would say the quality of the selected drives is pretty darn good. Also I know it may be hard for you to believe but when people get loaners they rarely treat it with the same decency as they would their own unit, so your observations and subsequent assault on everything HP seem to me to be flawed.

I have owned Dells (biggest peices of junk I have ever owned) and Gateways back when they were decent, and Apples and I can say none of them are, in my opinion, better then HP.

Like most OEMs, HP does not make anything inside the laptop. Everything is from other manufactuers, aka, Samsung, LG, Toshiba, Hitachi, Seagate, etc. They just give specifications/designs to companies to make the parts, and then put it all in a pretty little case.

I know. It was sarcasm. It doesn't translate well in print.

I have had two DELL PC and Two Toshiba Laptops never had problems with them. I just bought a HP dv9028NR with 2 gig of memory intergrated video which is fine with me as I am not a gamer. I still have my Last Toshiba laptop still running 6 years old and going strong. If the HP lasts as long I will be happy

As others have said, your wrong, and I think your comments are far from any truth. I've owned an HP notebook zt3280us for 2 years and upgraded to another HP dv6275us for Vista. It runs both great on XP and Vista........While all of the companies you state are "better" every company has defects......ITS PART OF THE GAME.

I'm an electronics engineer by trade for the last 15 years, I KNOW a turd when I see one, and HP isn't it......

Come back and post later when you have a clue. thanks.......
