My hp pavilion 6100 dv7t's hp coolsense just randomly started giving me an error saying it's not supported on my machine and I've now lost the ability to adjust fan speeds. The last profile I had set was quietest so I hope it's not locked there.

I've tried a system restore, reinstalling the support assistant, tried downloading the standalone hp coolsenes but it doesn't do anything, even tried earlier versions of support assistant. It just doesn't load on my laptop anymore.

I don't know what I did to cause it but now I'm likely to have to reinstall Windows to get it back. >.<

Ok I just reinstalled the HP assistant again and did the tune-up which apparently figured out that Coolsense was missing and now it shows up.

However it still says "HP Coolsense is not supported on this machine."

The version of the Support Assistant seems updated so I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but does anyone have any idea whats going on?

HP SimplePass also doesn't work. When I try to run it, it sits there for 20 seconds then says "the truesuite engine failed to initialize properly."

    >.> I have no idea whats going on but I foresee another (4th?) windows reinstallation due to something HP software related

Are you doing system recovery from the HDD or from DVDs?

i've got the CDs but I'd rather NOT reformat my computer for something software related if possible

i just want coolsense to work >.>

it seems like theres some core HP thing thats damaged or missing thats causing some stuff to malfunction but I've downloaded everything

this happened to me. Just got mine on tuesday, and started uninstalling a bunch of stuff, but I left the support center on . Also I ran Ccleaner, and disabled a bunch of stuff from the startup in msconfig.

Then I tried to upgrade my catalyst softwarr and it wouldnt reinstall at all, after several attempts to uninstall and then reboot.

Also in HP support assistant a bunch of the computer system info was not loading like model number and installed ram etc.

I'm guessing something I did made it stop working so I just reset the computer to like new status and started over. Everything works great now, and I'm going through the uninstall process and cleanup process again, just much more carefully this time!

everything works except for HP coolsense and simplepass for me, although it sounds like something very similar happened to you

i think it might be some duplicate files sitting around somewhere messing stuff up but i have no idea where to start

    i guess i'll have to reformat :(

Type msconfig in Run and check in services that all services from HP are enabled. That worked for me
