So my new custom HP DV6T will be in the mail soon, and I would like to know what programs I can remove... The ones I plan on removing are already crossed out... What about the three in the blue box, can those go? I would like to keep MS Works, Adobe, and IE, but if you see anything else that can go please let me know...

Other than the Protectsmart HDD protection software none of the others are technically necessary. The mediasmart software is similar to the Windows media center and if you dont use then it can be easily removed. It also includes a webcam component via which you can record video/pictures if the system is equipped with a webcam. The DVD suite and muvee reveal again not necesary and if you have your own DVD burning and video software then they can be deleted as well.

What HP bloatware can be removed? Simple answer remove it all ;) , you will be glad you did! But as miner said leave the protectsmart hard drive protection as that will park the hard drive read/write head as soon as the sensor detects that the notebook has been bumped hard or is falling, thus preventing a head crash which is very bad for hard drives

Even better answer, reinstall a clean copy of Windows and only get the drivers from HP. You can opt out of the garbage quickplay buttons OSD as well. See this post.. ;)

Okay, so I have removed a lot of stuff, but there are just a few I have questions as to what exactly they do...

The first are HP Active Support Library and HP Help and Support... What would I loose by deleting these?

What about the HP Total Care Advisor... This is new to me so I do not know how useful it is... Can I find all of the info it shows elsewhere on the laptop? As for now, I have disabled it on Startup via MSCONFIG, but was wondering if I should dump ot all together...

And lastly, what exactly are HP Quicklauch Buttons?

I did this with my DV2 and huge performance and hard drive space gained.

I hate the bloatware that's included.

Active support library is HP's own system info or health center. Includes the battery check application. Not necessary and can be uninstalled safely. HP help and support adds HP customization to the Vsta help center. Not necessary and can be removed.

Quicklaunch buttons includes the driver & software for the touch sensitive buttons(media DVD buttons) on the laptop. Keep, if you want to buttons to work.

My buttons work fine without it... This isn't Windows 98 you know.
