    I have a Compaq V2000.AMD chip sempron 3000.
The #'s on the bottom are:
    bar code
    2CB6180V9R
    bar code
    ET059AVR MFG# 2CB6180V9R
I can't find the HP help and support app. When I used sys info I was informed
    that I had a Presario V2000 (EM702AV#ABA). HP web site claims I don't exist.
Does anyone know what this machine is?
    thanx,
    kdub

What was printed outside the box when you bought it? HP & Compaqs have variations in a model series and corresponding numbers. Isn't the model number imprinted on the last line of the label?

Its basically a V2000 series notebook. Since it is AMD based systems it is reffered to as the V2000z. I presume you have a CTO model, thats why you wont be able to find any information on it on HP's website.

Trying to pick up the obligatory 2gb ddr while it's still cheap.Larger hd. So who knows about cto's? Actually I think I saw cto on the hp site-gonna check there again.

Custom ordered notebooks from HP's website are usually referred to as CTO versions. Your V5307 is a pre-configured version while the V2000 was customized to his/her liking by the previous owner.

I have and still use a v2000 like yours exept with a AMD Turion64 instead. I believe it uses DDR333(PC2700)mhz So-Dimm memory modules (stock) but others have success installing DDR400mhz(PC3200) ones on the Turion versions like these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145096

If you want 2G of memory, to be on the safe side(compatibility wise) I would get 2x 1GB DDR333mhz(PC2700) Notebook modules. like these :
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208015

browse through the customer reviews on the PC2700 modules on newegg and see the v2000 mentioned a couple of times.

    hope that helps

by the way i think you may also have a CTO version if HP says it does not exist like mine.

I recently refurbished a V2000z. Very nice machine. I added a Crucial PC2700 SODIMM to the existing stick. PC3200 would work too but I believe the BIOS will force PC2700 mode and PC2700 was cheaper. The 1GB PC2700 SODIMMs are on sale now.

Start | Help and Support will bring up HP's Help and Support, assuming it was installed. Otherwise, grab the newest version you can find from any HP or Compaq download page.

It's a V2000Z CTO. I have one as well. Excellent performance (for a budget Sempron). Nice integrated graphics. Small. Light-weight. Durable. Quiet. Cool. One of the best purchases I've ever made. Excellent value.

I actually like my old lowly V2000Z more than I do this DV6000Z. It just makes me happy that I spent almost nothing ($350) for something that turned out to be so well worth it.
