    What are these options useful for???

    I have finally decided to make a purchase and its come down to V2000. Thou I am new to this ( and actually be my very first pc ) i would like to see if someone could explain these options they have and how I could or would benefit from them. Here they are,
    FREE Upgrade to Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG WLAN!
    Get the full power of Intel Centrino mobile technology when you match an Intel PRO/Wireless card with an Intel Pentium M processor
    FREE Upgrade to 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/125HSM!!

    Also, is having a 8x DVD+/-RW & CD-RW Combo Drive better than having the option DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support. Thanks for any info that you will have toward this. This is the only thing thats holding me back from making my purchase. :p

    Either WiFi card will share your internet connection well. The advantage of the of the faster card would be if you are transfering files over a network. The DVD burners are similar. The one with dual layer can burn dual layer discs. Dual layer discs hold 8.5GB of data whereas the others can only burn 4.7GB of data. The second one can burn lightscribe discs. Basically you flip the disc over and it can burn an image onto the disc for labeling purposes. I had a lightscribe burner. It was kinda cool, but it took about 30 minutes to burn a disc. Personally would opt for the dual layer, but there are few projects that will require a dual layer disc. I would also recommend the 5400RPM hard drive for a nice performance increase. I would get the 12 cell battery for outstanding battery life in conjunction with the Pentium M CPU. It does adda little weight though. Good Luck.

    People have reported that the Intel 802.11g card is flakey. The 125HSM card is made by Broadcom. As much as Broadcom's Linux-hostile nature annoys me, I'd get the Broadcom. I've yet to hear of anyone actually getting the 125HSM mode to work though, just plain 802.11g.

    Check the V2000z's again. Besides being 64-bit capable the ATI GPU is a few times faster than the V2000's Intel GPU. It's still low-end but not horribly so.

    I don't know why a lot of people are having issues with their Intel 2100BG WLAN cards. I have one in my HP nx8220 and it works flawlessly from day one.

    I'd personally recommend getting the Intel.

    I'm going with the PRO/Wireless 2200BG WLAN! Sad to say thou I just missed the instant $150 rebate on hpshopping.com. I guess thats what happens when you lack knowledge on somethings :( . Butter luck next time :cool:
