Hi, I have a dv5-1157ca, the Canadian version of the dv5t, and I was wondering does anyone know what brand the motherboard is?

Is it an asus or gigabyte?

Most manufacturers do not reveal the OEM's for their notebook motherboards since they are usually custom built for the laptop unlike desktop motherboards. My guess would be foxconn or quanta.

It should be Quanta. At least for the majority of HP consumer notebooks. :)

You can try and check your hardware configuration using the Hardware Lister (lshw) option in PartedMagic.

    * Download the PartedMagic .iso and burn it onto a CD
    * boot using this CD and launch Hardware Lister ( see here)

Here's a section of the output for my DV6T Quad Edition

    Motherboard
    product 1657
    vendor Hewlett-Packard
    physid 0
    version 10.22

Like @miner said, may not reveal the actual manufacturer.

    Everest usually shows the OEM.
