Can I watch video files from my hard drive on Quickplay? Or is it only dvds/cds?
Also what kind of battery life should I expect if I just run Quickplay til battery goes out?

Sorry, you can't view videos on your hard drive, though I think you should be able to.
I'm hoping that HP will release a software update or something. Currently, Quickplay plays MP3s on your hard drive, music cds and DVD movies. -
the point of Quickplay is to not have to boot windows at all, just insert a media disk (music or movie) and it plays. Having to specify the right folder and chose the file on your harddrive sort of implies some rudimentary (at least) use of windows or something similar....seems like it sort of defeats the purpose of not having to boot up at all, don't you think?

Well, QuickPlay is a form of Linux...I guess that if HP just developed it a bit more, it could have been possible to access files and folders on the hard drive.
QuickPlay seems more as an advertising gimmick to me. I think it might be useful on an airplane or train, but otherwise, I can't see how it would be all that practical. -
Well, precisely...but don't discount the usefulness of that on a plane. That's exactly why I bought it. I find it useful all the time for exactly that. There's nothing like a snotty berating from a flight attendant while your laptop is taking its own sweet time to turn off as your plane readies for landing....! With Quick Play, one click and it shuts off. I personally find it very useful.

A couple more things added. QuickPlay can also play VCD or SVCD. It also plays MP3 on CD or in the shared Music folder but not from any other folder or media reader. It does support international languages. I've re-installed it with Chinese interface and it can display the ID3 tag in Chinese. The music will continue to play even when you closed the lid. It is a little bit too big for an MP3 player, but it is the right size for a portable DVD player. A 10" DVD player may cost almost half as much with a half size screen and no computer function at all.

I think that HP should create a downloadable update to Quickplay so that we can also view our photos on our memory sticks or hard drive for instance.

Great suggestion... sent it to M. Hurd, CEO, is e-mail address (actually one of his minions) is available at the HP site (not HPshopping).

Was wondering if anybody can tell me the advantages of using QuickPlay vs. just watching a DVD in the O/S besides the quick start up time? Does it really save much on battery life. And also does anybody know a way I could add a similar feature on my V2000z. I was thinking of probably just setting it up as a dual boot and using some sort of really basic linux or something. If anybody knows of anything out there let me know. Thanks.

May be if enough people ask HP about it, they may(it hardly costs anything at all). -
See, QuickPlay is supposed to function like a standalone DVD player, and DVD players can display photos on a CD or DVD so I can't see why HP can't do this with Quickplay. I know that the Sony TX ultraportable series has a QuickPlay type feature which lets you view photos in addition to playing music and movies.
They should also make it so that you can play music anywhere on your hard drive, not just in the "My Music" folder.
What can Quickplay play?
