I bought a used nc6320 last Sunday and sold it today cause it was a model without the bluetooth and didn't have the recovery disk and only had Win XP pro on it.

But I could see I would like to have another, but more complete. That thing has PORTS out the ying yang. Especially a serial port.

So while Im looking for another used one I was wondering if there is any other laptops available with those options and that many usable ports. :)

Pretty sure Bluetooth could had been added (module), don't know about if the antenna would already be there
Recovery disc can be worked around...
XP Pro is a plus, not a minus.
(Vista ain't that great, plus it got all that DRM crap in it- Not to mention alot of apps will have to be re-bought that might not run correctly in Vista..)

Got to ask, what were the specs, and how much did you buy/sell it for? (curious)

    I have a nx6325...

Well I did see HP had the BT modules for $62. The cable for it was under the drive.
Didn't know where to get the recover disks from.

But I listed it on Ebay before I found out about the BT was available. HP dont make it easy to find their parts section.

Here is the link if its ok to post.
    Gave $500 for it.

On the recovery disc.. you can use a disc imaging program like Acronis to create your own, and/or create a recovery partition on the unit itself.... and you can make "images" of the OS, and/or your data at ANY TIME, as MANY times as you want.

Only thing the recovery disc is good for is to re-image back to totally stock.

Well one reason I sold it was the drive had been wiped and none of the HP stuff was on it.

But back to my question about a comparable machine I see that the Dell D520 comes close and offers a serial connector.
    EDIT:

the Dell 500-800 series have serial but dont appear to have the features the NC series has for the money.

Why not just take any notebook and buy a/some serial-to-usb convertor plugs?

Not that it matters now to you since you sold it... Are you saying the Hd was wiped totally, NO OS... or just the pre-installed junk not being there?

Are the drivers should be downloadable...

Just a FYI for someone else you can (most of the time) get the install/recover discs shipped to you for FREE, call them, tell they the "user" created restore discs didn't work right... and now you have a system you paid for that is un-useable.

In other cases you may be able to go to the CTO page (Custom to Order) for the CTO unit within the family , in the below example it being for a HP dv9000t XP PRO and order the discs there for
    $14.95
    estimated tax (USD): $1.35

    --------------------------

    total (USD): $16.30

    If that fails

PS: Sorry I can't provide detailed info on what compares... If you're looking to stay in the HP product range you can download, view the specs for the business class machines pretty easily..

Go to the page that lists the models, and under each there should be something like this:,

This link for the nx635 series:

    Thanks for the help.

Do they make a usb to serial adapter? The reason I want it is my Viewsat satellite receiver has a serial connector.

After much searching and reading the HP NC series pretty much has the available ports covered in todays laptops.
I know the serial is going out for usb which is alright, but some of us are still in the dark ages. :D

I see good used prices for the NC8230's.

You can get serial-to-usb adapters at pretty much any computer store.
