Have been shopping around for a laptop to do all the usual stuff plus light to moderate gaming. Really been going back and forth between Sony FW, HP, and MSI. Costco has this HP dv6-1253 for $829.
This seems like a really, really good deal, but I was hoping to get the HP forums' take on it. Is this a pretty reliable model? Does anything stick out as trouble on it? Is that price as good as it looks? I've been trying to keep up on the reviews and threads, but was hoping for someone/anyone expert opinion on it. Thanks!!

Hey Blabby!
For $829 that is a pretty superb deal. The processor is strong enough to handle a majority of your tasks. Combined with 4GB of RAM, you will be fully able to take on all of your multi-tasking ventures. Having a 500GB hard drive is amazing and will allow for pack ratting all of your downloadables. A Blu-Ray drive is extremely expensive right now and that is an added bonus. The ATI Radeon Mobile HD 4650 will perform very well for moderate gaming. I would compare it the 8600m GT which is a main steam mix between budget and performance. You should theoretically be able to play Call of Duty 4 at around 25-40 FPS on high settings.
Altogether, I think you'll be very happy with your purchase. Customizing this notebook on HP.com proved to be much more expensive. With the specifications listed above the notebook would cost approximately $1,600 if purchased from HP directly. The 4650 is a $400 upgrade and the Blu-Ray drive is an additional $165 upgrade.
I hope this helps. -

Getting that irresistible package for under $1k is surely a winner. Congrats!

Thanks everyone...I'm very seriously considering it.

Costco have financing?
-
Buying from Costco you also get a 2 year HP warranty and if you buy it with a Amex that is a total of 3 years of warranty.

Thats a superb deal dude. Go and get it without hesitation.

Went there today, all sold out but with 13 due in. They did have a 18? inch version instock with the same specs (1400 x 900 screen) but without the costco coupon for 999.99.
I don't know about battery size on the bigger one though. -
The bigger one is called hdx18. IMO its too big to be portable, although it has 2 hard drive slots.

It wasn't the HDX, it had the same naming scheme, dv# ####cl, as the 1253 but was much larger. I'm going to call them up again tomorrow to see if they have any of the 1253s in stock.
What do you all think of this HP laptop from Costco? Good deal?
