Nice laptop with weak GPU. If you think about Windows Vista, choose something else

Yeah, I'd have to say thats really the only thing that holds it back, no dedicated GPU, real shame, real shame. Otherwise, I think its a great notebook.

I love it, but I'm not getting it for Vista reasons. I need to have a 200M minimum.

The HP L2000 and Compaq V2000z are basically the same thing, but with a 64-bit AMD CPU and ATI 200M GPU for less money. I'd look at those. Battery life is slightly better on the dv1000, mostly on account of the weak GPU. I recommend the 12 cell battery option for all of the above notebooks if you don't mind the additional size/weight.

Brian, hmm that L2000 looks interesting, is it much bigger than dv1000?

The L2000 and dv1000 are nearly the same size. Just a few cosmetic differences and different guts of course.

    L2000: 13.15" (L) x 9.1" (W) x 1.29" (min H)/1.53" (max H)
    dv1000: 13.15" (L) x 9.24"(W) x 1.18"(H) front & 1.52" (H) rear

The V2000z is a L2000 without the Lance Armstrong marketing.
