Well it seems like my topic in the what laptop should i buy forum didn't work:\ i'll try to get some advice here because i badly need it.
I live in Australia by the way.
So there's this HP laptop i've seen at my store, and it seems pretty good for the price, $1738 aus...i'm mainly after something that i can use in the same way that i usually use a desktop computer, which is using the internet, word processing, and maybe a game or two, ultimately for studies. So would this laptop be reliable for me? Something i can use for a number of years and rely on?? Please some feedback![]()
Actually i found a link too of what seems to be the very same laptop! http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/ho/WF05a/1090709-1116637-1116665-1116665-1116665-13077980.html but it's more expensive on that link...hah

what types of games do u want to play
-
Its kinda expensive, when I convert to USD its still around $1500.00 for a dv6500. I paid $1250 USD on the latptop in my sig (I used the 30% off coupon). It is kinda hard to test the numbers without more info like what screen it has, warranty, battery type etc. Try building it on the HP website and try the active coupon codes (They probably wont work since you are not in the US but its worth a try).

I have almost the exact same system. As you can see, I paid 1088 including tax shipping with two years warranty. But you have to remember, the poster is buying in AU and will not be able to use many of the coupons on this site. Generally, HP's cost more down under so this may be a decent price.
And yes, when you convert to US dollars its just over 1500. Hopefully this thing comes with at least two years warranty. Price seems high but then that may the best deal in Au.
As for this being something you can use for many years... it should be. The video card is not extreme and should be ok for lighter gaming. If you are a serious gamer this machine is already out of date. If you are a hardcore gamer I would wait for the upcoming 1525 dell. Forget the Dell 1520 its got problems. But the 1525 will have HDMI and a strong GPU.
Otherwise your HP should be fine for many years being you got the HDMI which helps future proof it for the newer HDTV's. These HP's are nice machines once you tweak the OS and dump the bloatware or do a fresh install. I will say they suck the way HP ships them. The vongo they bundle being the worse since you have to delete lines in the registry to kill this resurrecting POS. -
everything else is pretty much the same.
Then there's this one which is $1799 http://www.laptop.com.au/product/hpdv6573.shtml and is more similar to the one i suggested, just that this has 3GB memory but still a low video card.
And about that link, here's a HP system that actually seems like it's the exact same system as the one i posted, however it's AU$1899! :\

thanks guys -
So you don't fancy the 8510p I recommended in the other thread of yours?

Prior to the merger, Compaq has the strongest business PC range, and this is integrated as the HP Compaq brand.
HP Compaq models are far more reliable and better built than the Pavillion or Presario, but at a premium.
Basically, HP maintains 2 distinctive lines of notebooks, the entertainment and consumer focused HP Pavillion and Compaq Presario as well as the commercial business oriented HP Compaq. They cater towards different market needs, with the HP Compaq competing against the Thinkpad and Latitude. You won't find these for sale in Harvey Normans because HN only sells consumer-oriented models (flashier, greater revenue and better marketing).
Compaq Presarios are not any worse than a Pavillion. They are just lower-specced. They are built on the same platform as HP has streamlined its range since their merger with Compaq. -
its a great laptop, esp for the things that you mentioned. i love mine, although it is slightly different.
the graphics card isnt too good at playing recent games though, but older games it will play wonderfully.
my specs:
C2D T7300 @ 2.0GHz
160 GB HD
2GB RAM
8400M GS
Webcam
DVDRW without HD and lightscribe -
I don't know much about laptops, i didn't know this about HP compaq line, so i'll look into it! But you're right, i dont' think i've seen many HP compaq types at HN.
but yeah i guess i'm more for the older games.
What do you think of this HP laptop? Is it worth it?
