I recently ran 3dmars06 on my laptop and my score is 2424. During the test the fps highest number was 14, and average number was 5. The games that were played during the test ran very slow... so are my numbers bad? the what is good about this nvidia cards we own (ge force 8600gs).

It means exactly what it said. That in 3dmark06, you get 2424 points, and a framerate between 14 and 5.

Nothing else. If you get a better score than another computer, it *might* mean that your system is better at gaming... But then again, it might not.
In short, 3dmark doesn't really mean anything at all. (And it's designed to run slow, basically. It's supposed to bring pretty much any computer to its knees)
