Hi,
Chaz has answered me in the official dv5t thread, but I wanted to get a broader perspective.
My dv5t fan is quiet when I am working on the laptop normally. I can barely hear it.
However, when I put my ear directly to the upper left corner of the laptop where the fan is located, I can hear a gentle, but noticeable, grinding. Sort of like sprocket turning really really fast, but it is not loud nor very disturbing. It is somewhat hard to describe (and I may have described it wrong), but it is more than just air rushing out of the laptop.
Chaz said it may be an electrical current, but he mentioned it as a high pitched noise, and I don't think I would necessarily call this high pitched.
I am hoping someone else can hear what I hear and affirm that it is normal, and also describe it better![]()
Like I said, put your ear right on the upper left side of the laptop and you should hear what I am talking about.
Thanks.

I have a dv4t, and it sounds like a macbook it doesn't make any grinding noises or anything like that. Just air coming out.
What does your dv5t fan sound like?
