I cant figure out what driver i need to download to fix that. I think it's something to do with my USB ports, but that doesn't make any sense. thanks in advance!
edit: i tried to DL this:
JMicron Card Reader Driver
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2100&product=3744198
but it freezes in the installer everytime.

SM Bus controller is something to do with the Intel Chipset, download this http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-013541.htm for your chipset, it may fix them all.
If you cannot work it out, go into properties > Details and then choose 'Hardware IDs' from the list -
you need intel chipset drivers for those. go to hp.com and download+install these two drivers in that order. They will require multiple restarts.
1. Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH9 for Microsoft Windows Vista
2. Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller Driver -
uhh... or you could get the outdated ones from HP, your choice.

I am just providing another option tinselworm, no need to take offense.

thanks gents. the intel chipset did the trick.
edit: that one that says unknown device still remains. -

Sometimes Vista has trouble locating the correct driver even if it is there. When searching for a driver to install try browsing for the driver manually and point to c:\windows\system32. I had to do this once for an Unknown device problem.

What driver is this?
