    Hey all,

    I just bought a new Compaq V6402CA Laptop:

    and I am doing a clean XP install. So far I got the SATA drivers slipstreamed into XP using nlite. Doing a bunch of reading though (which is mostly written for HP Laptops), what exactly is QuickPlay?? It seems like it's a bunch of quicklaunch buttons on HP laptops? Do I have to create a separate partition and leave it for QuickPlay and install that first? Does my laptop even have QuickPlay!??! I don't think I have those buttons but I do have volume mute and volume control in the place where I think the HP Laptop has them.

    When I look at my partitions, I have 2:
    C: Partition 1 (NTFS) 145GB
    E: Partition 2 (NTFS) 7GB --> Recover Partition

    Does this mean I can go ahead and clear both out to make room for XP and not have to worry about this QuickPlay business?

    Thanks for any help anyone can provide...totally new to this notebook stuff :)

    Yes (Spec sheet), you laptop includes quickplay but it is QP version 3 does not include any partition and essentially acts as a media center and whenever you press the QP button with the system turned off it just boots into Vista and loads the quickplay software. Quickplay version 3 is only compatible with Vista.

    QP ver 2 on the other hand has a separate partition and is bootable. So, unless you plan on using Quickplay ver 2, you dont need to create any separate partition.

    The top row touch sensitive buttons are controlled by the Quick launch buttons software. Since you have a Compaq you should have only the 'Q' quickplay, mute and volume controls. HP branded systems have more controls.
