What exactly is the SWSetup folder? Can I put it on a disc and delete it from the computer?

It would give me another 3.5 GB of space.

The SWSetup folder contains the installation files for all your drivers and updates. You do not need this folder, but you should definitely back it up. I used a blank dvd and I also used my external harddrive for another back up. This folder is important incase something goes wrong with your computer. When you wish to reformat your computer, say for Vista, you need these files if you want your computer to function 100% perfect. There are driver files on the HP website, but it only offers some. After you backed it up, delete it because it is just taking up space on your computer. Hope you found this post helpful. (Rep points would be appreciated! Hehe.)

what about the recovery discs? do i need the swsetup folder along with the discs if i want to start fresh again? i'm not talking about reformatting. just using the recovery discs. i'm asking this because i think i might have deleted the swsetup folder prematurely (thought i had backed it up but i don't think i did). am i screwed? wouldn't the recovery discs have all this stuff? where do i find the swsetup folder?

Nothing to worry. The recovery disc will put your system back to system back to factory state. The SWSetup folder is only needed if you want to perform a clean install or want to install/re-install any of the default HP software or drivers.

so essentially, the recovery discs contain the swsetup folder since after i use them to get back to factory state, the folder will be back (assuming i already deleted it)?
