HP just jacked up the price of the v5000z and v2000z by $200 overnight. And they introduced a Core Duo v5000. Crap, I was going to get one of these (once they offered free shipping).

The prices are so high now, you might as well go with a non-budget brand. I needed to get a laptop before my trip to Japan in April. Blast.

Actually, I think the price increases is just for the educational "discount". Wow, real good discount...

Am I not seeing the same thing you are? The prices are the same they have been when I look.

I'm going to Japan too ;D

Well, the APP discount is where the prices are messed up. Plus, I can no longer customize some models, and the arrangement of the laptops has been rearranged to accomodate the new v5000t.

But, I called HP about it, and they told me to just wait until March 5 (sunday) bc they'll have new discounts and should have the APP web page to normal

I hope it works out for you! I wasn't looking at that model, but he mentioned something about a $200 discount on v2000z. Anyways, if you go to the APP discount page, you can see that they are preparing to release a dv5000t and v5000t (Duo Core processors). But I can't see them at the regular Home/Home Office page.

Hey, man, I just realized you weren't excited, but you were mad about the discounts! I don't know if you know this, but if HP lowers the price on a laptop within 30 days of your purchase date, they'll credit (refund?) you the difference. But this doesn't apply to rebates or shipping, so you'll need to contact them to get specifics. I hope this helps.

Thanks for that info but l don't think they could do anything. l ordered the V4000T yesterday with the X700 and Pentium M 760, both of which you can't buy on the V4000T starting today. l dunno why they had to get rid of ANY dedicated video for the compaq, but its nice to know l have one of the last ones (or will have...as soon as it gets here)!

I'm not sure if you guys have checked the site recently....
    but.......
I just put this together on the HP website

    [ DV5000T ]
    *15.4” WXGA (1280 X 800) LCD
    *Intel Duo T2400 1.83GHz
    *256mb of DDR2 SDRAM (I'll purchase 1gb from newegg)
*nVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 w/128mb ram (better than the X700?)
    *60GB Sata 5400rpm hard drive
    *Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW
    *Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 a/b/g Network w/Bluetooth
    *6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    all for: $1499 -$100(instant savings) -$50(mir) = $1349.99

that seems like a pretty good deal with that graphics card right..?

so even though they got rid of the X700 option on the DV4000 this DV5000T looks pretty tempting.

    edit...
just found out that the Go 7400 is crap.... this sux!
what the hell happened to the X700...??!?!
man.. wth is HP thinking..? retards!

The v4000t was 379.99 all last night and this morning. Base. No dedicated vid card, but 380??? wow. I just checked, and the 300dollar discount doesn't seem to be working anymore. doh

The Go 7400 has a 64-bit memory interface, so I'd expect the X700 to beat it. The Go 7600 is the interesting one.
