Just a curious thought... So, from what I read, when you get a brand new replacement notebook via HP, it's part of agreement that you send in your old (maybe a broken one -if thats the case) notebook.
So then, what typically happens to old your notebooks that is returned to HP after you receive your replacement notebook?
Where does it go?
Do they strip the parts and recycle it? On what conditions?
What happens to the battery stuff?
What's scary is if they go through your hard drive to see if they can get anything...
What happens in the case where if you bought a replacement screen online and replaced the burnt out original screen that came with HP. Do they double check to make sure that the screen was the original one you bought from day 1?
Don't you think its scary what happens to your lappy after its gone?

the one thing i do know is that they recycle the batteries. when i sent laptops back to HP they said i could just keep the batteries cuz they were just going to recycle them anyway... if you're sending a laptop back to them, i'm willing to bet that they barely even check it out to make sure everything is there.. who knows.

When you send them back, they only verify the model and serial. The hard drives are usually melted down or undergo a specific reformat that erases all data. The salvageable parts are used in "Refurbished" models.

Eventually those systems are repaired completely, and sold to resale outlets like NewEgg as refurbished units, or at HP's own online discount and refurbished store. Keep in mind that these are units that the owners did not wish to wait the length of time for a complete repair, or did not have full replacement warranty on it. -
