    What improvements does the 17 3D have over the 17?

    Besides the 3D screen, does the 17 3D address any inherent Envy 17 issues such as heat, etc?

    Nobody knows for sure yet because no one has the final model as of today.

    Some said its only the display others (including some HP selling persons) are stating the company is aware of the current Envy 17 heating issues and they've done some work to improve it on Envy 17 3D.

    Time will tell what is true, its only a matter of time before HP start shipping the 3D model.

    does anybody know if it's possible to use the existing envy 17 to play 3d. I mean connecting it to an external 120 Hz display?

    No. I think it requires a GPU capable of HDMI 1.4 to do 3D output. The 6k series from ATI does support HDMI 1.4 and so does the NVidia 4XX
