I'm just wondering what is HP's policy on dead batteries assuming it's within warranty period?

If it's still under warranty and you can provide the receipt they usually will replace it. You also have to make sure that it's the real thing and not a counterfeit battery.

If it still under warrenty they will send you a new one -
Don't know about HP per se, but some manfacturers (Gateway does, or at least did a few years ago) consider batteries a consumable and will not replace batteries after a year, even if the system's warranty is longer.
So its possible that even if the laptop itself is still under warranty, the battery may not be -- but presumably this would only be an issue if your system's warranty is longer than 1 year..
As always, its best to check with your vendor directly. -

I'm fully aware of the flaws of Lithium-Ion technology which is why I want to know how HP will deal with it. -
HP is great on this...Follow these steps (I got a new batt. 2 weeks ago):
1) Check your battery using the HP tool (its in the HP support software)
2) If failure, and your PC is under warranty, start an on-line chat with an HP rep and tell him the issue
3) They will ask for a number abd call you the next day. You need to give a credit card as security because they will send you a new one with a return slip to send the old one
4) When you get new one, pop old one back in the mail (FedEx)
Voila
What is HP's policy on dead batteries?
