Can the motherboard not support up to 8GB of RAM?
-
-
yes it can
-
You need to open case to access the other memory slot.
-
Open an access slot and not the entire case, right?
-
The entire case.
-
Can someone provide a link to an install guide for this process?
-
According to HP, the Envy 15 supports a max of 16GB RAM.
Linky. Click on "Specs". -

Only on the i7 Quad models. i5 Duals can only hit 8 GB MAX. -
Ah ok, I see that in the configurator.

I don't think you need to open up the envy. The i7 model has two dim slots that you reach via opening the ram compartment. There're is alqo two more on the mobo that you can only access by taking the laptop apart.... but since they only kept two of the slots it would have been retardedif HP removed the easily accessed slots and kept the two hardtop reach ones.

Steps to reach the RAM Modules:
1) Pry off the 4 rubber pads on the back of the laptop.
2) Take out the Battery
3) Unscrew all screws on the backside (4 are under the rubber pads)
4) Remove the plate above the battery (reveals 2 Slots)
5) Open the lid and pop the keyboard module
6) CAREFULLY remove three cables from the keyboard module from the circuit board (know WHERE they go!)
7) Remove the keyboard module and the other two RAM slot are on the bottom left near the CPU Socket -

You will need to if you are going DDR3-1333 and you got a Gen 2 i7 Envy that came with 1066. -
OMG!!! Oh well! I guess I have some work cut out for myself.
Thanks! -
Why replace two? 6GB is more than plenty and it is easy to replace the first one.
-
True dual channel = better performance.
-
unless you do some major stuff, ain't going to make much of a difference
-
Only the i7 quads support 1333MHz I believe, any dual core will support maximum 1066MHz.
Real world performance difference versus asymmetric dual channel is negligible. -
I would need an exact model # from the bottom or else start here and see if they have a manual that will show a step by step of taking this thing apart. Choose your model, then OS and then look off to the right side where it says "Support for this product" and click manuals.

Hope this helps. -

Agreed- the max for i5 chipset is 8192MB or 8GB =D -
Here is the direct link to the Envy 15 maintenance and service guide -- hopefully this will help.
