I was just wondering how the MobilMeter works, what is the normal temperature parameters?
My notebook specs:
HP Pavilion zx5000 (COT)
- Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 3.00 GHz w/HT
- 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen(1280x800)
- 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) 9600
- 512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB)
- 40 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
- 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Yesterday I installed MobilMeter and I was on the line 3 hours, first 2-hours w/battery and 1-hour plugged in. After 3-hours MobilMeter test reading was:
Frequency: 3.00Ghz
Temperature: 56.0 C
Discharge Rate: 0.00 W
HDD: 39.0 C
Is this normal or what is the normal result for zx5000 ?
Thanks in advance

I have the same system as you excpet a 5,400RPM hard drive. The processor speed on this system will always be 3.0GHz plugged in or not, mine dose go up to 3.03 on and off though. Your hard drive temp is good mine is usally in the lower 40's but it is a faster slightly hotter drive. You cpu temp dose seem a little high. Here are some guidelines. When I'm doing normal windows work, internet, e-mail, word. My temperture is usally between 44-49c but if I start to encode video's like DVD then the temp can go up to the mid 50's when I stop it goes back to the upper 40's. The highest temp mine will reach is 60-61c only when I play unreal 04 or doom 3 otherwise its never that hot and soon as I stop playing it drops to 55c and slowly goes down from there. The max temp for the cpu is 80. If your's ever climbs over 70 either stop what you are doing or turn it off and let it cool. Also it is not good to run a computer too hot for long periods of time, the 60c I get playing games it the hottest I let it go. Its never gone over that because the cooling fans on this model are very good. the notebook's surface stay's cool. If you were using your notebook in your lap covers the vents on the bottom that could cause the higher temps but in that case its ok. For long hours of use put it on a solid surface like a desk so air can travel under the notebook to run through the cooling vents. The more space between your computer and the table results in lower temps too, so if you prop up the back it helps too but with this model that is not really needed. Your hard drive should stay under 50c too. If you are defraging or moving large files that could cause temps to go up. otherwise in normal use you should stay between 38-44c. I hope this helps!

yeah your cpu temp is too high if thats what it is when its idling. mine is at 46 right now and is usually in the range of 43 - 50 when idling and doing basic tasks depending on ambient temperature. HDD temp looks good though - mines always between 40-45 (i have the 60gb 5400 rpm though). my processor frequency also oscillates between 3.00 and 3.03 ghz. anyway, make sure your fans arent blocked and it also helps when its on a flat surface and the back is slightly elevated (for better ventilation). the highest ive gotten mine was 62 when doing a crapload of stuff at the same time...btw thats the only time i had the fans kick into "stage 3". stage 1 = low - temp below about 55-56. stage 2 = medium temp from about 55/56 up to like 61/62. stage 3 = 61/61 - ?. there might even be more after thanbut i dont ever wanna find out lol.

Thank you for your replies.
Next time I will leave my notebook on a flat surface and Ill see the new temperature reading.
Now I wonder if my notebook defective or not?
I have only 2-hrs battery life and CPU getting hot with simple computer tasks. (email, internet, XL sheet).
Thank you again

you might want to check your BIOS version a new one F.25 was just released so check on that. It could help with the battery

thanks for the link, any program out there read the temperature off a video card though ?
also genghis i tried out the battery and experienced around 2 hours and 23 minutes before i hit 3%, this was through normal messaging and browsing. i myself was a little displeased with the time, but i don't plan on using it off a/c power all that much. hope this helps you solve your battery issue. i say call hp up and make them send you out a new one, and if you get the same problems, i guess thats juss the notebook. -
hmmm juss used mobilemeter while gaming, and was wondering how reliable it was, cause it seems the cap for the program is 60 degrees, it never goes above that, and my notebook seems to be hotter then 60 degrees, juss wondering about the integrity of the progam

I've had mobile meter read up to 62c so I think 60 is not the cap your computers fans just stop it from getting hotter.
