    Hi all,

I've had a hunt around but I've only been able to find battery stats for the 3D version of the envy 17 (Which is locked to the dedicated GPU, and has a screen with 2x the refresh rate).

Could someone who has the Non - 3D version of the new Ivy Bridge model advise what the battery life is like?

The features page of the Envy 17 lists it as 8 hours, while the specs page lists it as 7 hours.

Once again, not interested in the 3D version, Thanks!

I get anywhere between 4 and 6.5 hours normally with display brightness on 0% to 30% (the screen is very bright even when dimmed all the way, I refuse to use it at more than 70% brightness because it hurts my eyes unless I am outside), more if I turn wireless off (when using the wireless button on the keyboard, it disables wireless, WIDI, and bluetooth) which turns into 7 to 8.5 hours with it off.

There is no way your getting 4-6.5HR. I've been on 20% brightness since day one and made sure the Intel GPU is on over the AMD Card and I can just barely get 4HR. I just browse the web and do normal non intensive stuff... 4HR Max for me...

I forgot to mention that I also turned off Bluetooth and Intel WIDI. I also don't use the Backlit Keyboard often and I still get 4HR...

That is seriously what I get. I was able to get 5 to 6 hours when I pushed it with my HP Envy 17 3000 3D for the time I had it (Dim settings, wireless off, backlight off on keyboard). I also know I got one of the best battery life's at the time I had the the Envy 17 3D 3000 compared to others that posted their battery life.

Different batteries function differently and different settings can cause differences in battery life, in both laptops I have had msata SSD which are pretty low power and quick and will also affect battery life. Also I got 16gb of low voltage memory (1.35v opposed to the normal 1.5v). I also am pretty conservative with some of my usage. If watching a netflix movie I drop to 4-5 hours when the dimmest on this laptop. Currently I am just using Firefox with 80 tabs open, screen on dimmest and keyboard lighting off, typing and my battery is at 87% with 5hr 20min left on it. The windows power left estimate has been pretty accurate so far with this laptop surprisingly (I have had other laptops Windows battery life estimates were 25% to 50% different than actual usage)

If the 3d gets this kind of battery life without switchable graphics then I should have just gotten it instead.... I get 4 hrs max on my non 3d.

Exactly people on this forum with the 3D version are only getting 2.5HR Max. I don't know how he's getting twice that amount. Especially since the 3D version can't switch to the Intel HD 4000 Card... It's impossible... The 2D versions battery life is around 4HR...

I generally get about 4.5 hours with brightness at 60-70% (the screen is EXTREMELY bright) with wifi on while internet browsing and running Netbeans IDE and Photoshop CS5. So I could believe the guy above getting 5, maybe 6 hours, if brightness is all the way down and wifi is disabled. Gaming pretty much drops it to about 2-2.5 hours.

I wonder what I'm doing wrong then. My Screen Brightness is always set to 10-20%. I also do normal stuff like surfing web using chrome 5-6 tabs. I listen to music with HP Media Smart nothing crazy. I only use the 7850m Card when I trying out games. I have Batterybar Pro and I'm always getting under 4HR Battery life...
