It all worked from stock, starcraft II ran beautifully. I format everything to start fresh with no bloatware! and now sc2 can't find the ATI card!! this is a joke!

Does anyone have a fix or a way to make this work or this laptop is going strait back. Im sick of "smartass" technology that gives people nothing but problems. Nvidias optimus is just as horrible.

Download the ATI drivers from there. I didn't give the direct link since I highly encourage you to spend some time to do some research and preparation about your laptop or any computer before doing a clean install. It may cost you 5 hours but it save two week of frustration.

Also, you need to note what type of laptop and specifications here. No one can help you without details.

This is exactly why you shouldn't do a clean install unless your performance is suffering/you don't have enough space. Just download the drivers from HP's website and it should work, though

you kidding me? are you really that evoted into HP? that you shouldnt do a clean install?

If I pay over $1000 for a laptop it better work with the setup I want and not become strange just because things doesnt have HP bloatware that slows it down.

Thanks guys, but it's going back on saturday.

It has nothing to do with HP but why risk messing something up when everything is working fine already? It is almost always faster and easier to just remove the bloatware

I had this exact problem yesterday problem. heres what I did:assuming you have a dv6 with only ati graphics:
uninstall all drivers and then restart machine DO NOT LET WINDOWS INSTALL GENERIC GRAPHICS FOR YOU.
then reinstall latest catalyst drivers resinstall as prompted and BAM both cards are recognized and working.

Did anyone bother read the post i made above?? Instead of blaming OP??

By the way, I had no problems doing a clean install, it only took me 30 mins getting my windows fully running.

    @panzerghost
Switchable graphics for the dv6t only occurs if an i5 cpu is present.

I just got a dv7 with Radeon 5650. I also did a clean install. After I downloaded and installed the latest ATI drivers, I installed Starcraft II. But it said it does not recognize my graphics card. It recommended a lower resolution and medium settings. Is that the best the 5650 can do? I was hoping for 1600x900 and high settings. Even on medium, I notice some lag.

I just got a dv7 and I noticed that too. After installing the latest video drivers from the HP website there was still a bit of lag on medium settings. Then I installed the latest Intel boost drivers from the HP website and now it seems to run better on the medium settings.

starcraf tII runs like crap on the dv6, even when it shows 40 fps, it feels like 15... jagged and jumpy.. my old core2 duo runs it a lot more smooth on same settings.

is your ATI driver version is 8.741.1.1000?? Also, have you install turbo boost??

Your laptop spec is similar to my dv6t but with a tad better cpu than mine (520). But mine is 30 fps on high @ native.

I dont have switchable graphics so I installed the latest ATI driver from ATI website instead of from HP. I am now getting 40fps on high. I also disabled "action keys" so fn keys work as intended. I still notice some lag but it's not too bad. I still can't install the Intel Turbo Boost driver but I dont think that's necessary. Intel's Turbo Boost monitor shows it is already working. I am much happier with my new laptop now.
