    Hi All,
As mentioned in my Previous Post, I will be returning my V3000T in couple of days. So I am back in the notebook buyers group. And once again... i have to choose a laptop. I was pretty satisfied with the V3000 except for the 'mechanical' problems that my piece had. HP policy would return me the money and I need to order another one. Now sadly this is going to take some time..

Now I'm keeping my options open... HP dv series or Compaq V series.. basically they both have the same components..

Does the compaq come with a graphics card with dedicated memory?
I would not be doing a lot of graphic intensive work.. A lil photo editing.. and a lot of movies along with other stuff.. Does graphics card make any diff to any of there?

Another dif.. the 14.1' compaq and HP comes with mem speed 533 while 15.4s come with 667.. now does that make a lot of difference?

Not a bog fan of large notebooks.. but the keyboard on the larger ones appeared to be fixed better.

The webcam on the HP is an attractive feature.. but I wouldnt mind much. I kinda liked the compaq styling.. but woudnt say that dv is bad.. looked a lil too shiny grey for me..

But y is dv priced higher, is there any quality difference that HP has in the manufacturing process?

I would like opinion from owners of both dv and V ... or anyone else who has done serious comparisons? btw where does HP stand when compared to Dell/Thoshiba/IBM?

I would say most definitly choose the dv( 2)( 6)( 9)000 series over Compaq!
Compaq have cheaper parts and are not as current as the dv series- that is the dv2000, 6000, and 9000.

Sorry I forgot to add, HP vs (IBM) which is actually not IBM but (Lenovo) beats the living heck out of it. Toshiba make decent notebooks but they aren't very pretty in my opinion, and they are alittle more expensive and not as easily customize-able. I hate Dell don't get me started lol :p

Compaqs and HPs share the exact same hardware. HPs however have more options. Generally, HP is trying to push Compaq as the economy class (less upgrade options, less luxury options) but both brands are manufactured in the same plants

There is no difference between HP & Compaq other than the design and the options offered.

Also there is an EDIT button just in case you feel the need to add something extra to your post.

No to both questions. Unless you want to play 3D games getting an integrated graphics ccard wont hurt the performance other than it reserving some RAM for its own use.
The difference is minimal. The latencies of the average 667MHz memory is higher than those running at 533MHz. This hurts the performance of 667MHZ memory and at most the difference is very negligible (1 - 5%).
I have used both the dv2000t and curently own the V3000z. FWIW I have found the quality varies, the dv2000t had a loose(flexy) keyboard but my V3000z does not have this issue. I was surprised how much it differed. The dv also had some issues with the touchpad. Other than these 2 issues the dv2000t was as good as the V3000z. I read your other thread and looks ike you got a lemon since I have not experienced any of the issues you listed. Maybe you could try your luck with another V3000.

I returned the dv2000t because of the touchpad. The touchpad was erratic and used to jump around while using it making it hard/if not impossible to use. I dont know how to describe it but let me try. Say if I was clicking on the Start button. The touchpad would suddenly jump all the way across the screen randomly and I would end up clicking on something else. This was totally random and in my case happened quite often. The V3000z OTOH does not exhibit this issue. So, I think they might be using different touchpads but I am not 100% sure on that one.

hmm.. that has got me thinking... i was slightly inclined to the dv2000 .. but for the record.. I have the flexi keyboard issue with my V3000. As i have already mentioned .. the dv2000 at the store also had the prob .. but neither of their 15.4 counterparts had the issue..
btw: One problem abt V3000 seen in most reviews.. bzzing noise on pressing above the dvd drive. However I had to press really hard.. which normally wouldnt happen even if you let your hand rest completely on the notebook.. however i wonder if it is present in dv2000...!

Some heat above the hard disk.. is that the same with dv?

also .. my touchpad buttons have become really annoying.. and i hope noone else there has got this problem..
