I've just successfully completed a clean install, the touch buttons above the keyboard work, but they don't make a sound when pressed.

I know it's something to do with an audio driver that I need but I can't remember what exactly I need to install.

    Thanks!

Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium, used a windows anytime upgrade DVD. Did it to get rid of the droves of bloatware :p

    Anyone??!!

I know the fix for this was posted recently but i've checked the last 17 pages of this forum and can't find it!

It's the only issue I have after the clean install, I am really really happy with the system otherwise :D

I don't know that it is a audio driver... because normally you can get it to be before the OS even boots up... so if it beeps before any drivers are executed it has to be something else.

I just tried that and they still make no sound.

Just to be clear I mean the touch buttons above the keyboard especially the ones that control the volume when touched, there was a short sound everytime I pressed it before I clean installed.

Also I've only just noticed the fan runs on low speed all the time, even when just browsing the web, is this normal?

Try installing the HP QuickLauch Buttons available on the HP website.

Tried that as well and it had no effect apart from making a load of stuff run in the background :(

As long as I'm not missing anything apart from the sound they make I really don't mind I guess i'm just not sure that's all it is.

Also what do you guys use for your bluetooth? I notice HP has some software for it or should I just use the default microsoft bluetooth stuff?

    Thanks!

I actually had this issue when i did a clean install the first time, the sounds magically came back after a while. Thats why i recommended that you disable and re-enable. Are you sure you not hearing it right?

Install the bluetooth drivers from the swsetup folder, this isnt actually by HP. This program lets you pair devices and stuff...I dont remember microsoft having bluetooth features built-in o_O

you could try checking the cable to the quick touch buttons... make sure the connections on either side of the ribbon aren't "waving" or have any breaking in them.

Does anyone know how to fix this cause i dont wanna regret getting this laptop if the quicktouch buttons wont make noise.

Where are the latest QLB? Do you think sound drivers and QLB would actually work? It was working before and then suddenly doesnt work.

Not definate that it would fix it but give it a try anyway. Go to the hp websites driver and support. Type in your model number and it should lead you to your OS driver page

What I just did was unistall the keyboard in the system devices section and then when it restarted it says something like ps/2 keyboard which i know has nothing to do with the quick touch buttons.

I tried to update the drivers but it says it has the best drivers already.

Well flipfire I reinstalled the quick touch buttons software and reinstalled the sound card drivers but still doesnt make a sound. On my sisters own HP laptop it makes noise for her but not mine anymore.

It looks like i will have to return this laptop and tell them its defective.

Funny how I only owned this laptop for 1 day and already an issue has occured. I think this is a sign for me to get a different brand laptop.

But flipfire do you have any other suggestions to fix this problem?

no but i can guarantee you its just a software issue

so your returning the laptop because its not making button noises? Most people actually find this annoying and disable it. HP will probably ask you to do a recovery install.

WOW HP must be the weirdest laptop to own as when i was lowering the volume on the quick touch button. Now the graphic actually shows up now and of course the only time it fully works is when im at the desktop. But when im running a program or on a website it doesnt fully work.

Anyone have any issues like this?

Check your quicktouch control panel settings. It might be set to hide

I see it and you know what there isnt any option to hide or not. I click on it and it says sound 1, sound 2, sound 3.

I know this is an old thread but i got new info i wanted to share. My friend and I went over to bestbuy and were looking at the HP laptops since my friend loves my laptop and wants one of his own. So i was hearing the clicking noises when i was touching their volume buttons. I then went and clicked on the volume icon and there was no quicktouch volume graphic which means its not even showning. But the graphic for the hp laptop volume was showing.

Got any idea's on how to fix this? At least now i know i think maybe the whole soundcard drivers maybe need to be reinstalled or something like that?

I'm assuming the HP software for the buttons is inherently flawed.
