I have yet to find a driver that does not make gameplay choppy. I am currently using the stock drivers. What is everyone else using?

Drivers make a pretty big difference. I was using a crappy hp driver b4 and i got a 4.8 on the WEI index for graphics. Now im using a laptopvideotogo.com driver and i am getting a 5.0 graphics rating now.

i use 177.73 since i have vista 64....i find them very stable and better performance than the stock...
    laptopvideo2go.com

they also have a 177.92 which recently came out...but i haven't tested it and i dont think there was any improvement performance wise vs the 177.72

i suggest those drivers as well as others such as chaz etc..

I don't think you need to worry about uninstalling that driver. Just install the new.

If you really want to remove it you can go to control panel and go to uninstall programs. Then uninstall that driver. You can also right click My Computer - Properties - Devices. Then find display , and right click properties. Find the tab with driver details and uninstall from there as well.

I suggest backing up before doing this or you may get less than choppy gameplay...

Anyone have a driver recommendation for 32-bit Vista?

the automatic driver that installed is part of the vista package...it has prebuilt drivers so it can use something...you don't need to uninstall it first...just thirdparty ones that you see in your program uninstall list....
if it is choppy...are you running fraps...or any other programs? drivers will not improve performance as much as many people think...maybe a couple frames per second but thats it...

    have you clean installed?
    running programs in backround?
have your laptop at performance battery settings?
is your mouse jumpy? this can make it look choppy but its your mouse
do you have antialiasing on in the game...what settings do you have on?

there are many things that contribute to gameplay performance...there is no older driver that compares to newer ones my friends...even the dv5t moderators recommend 177.72/73 go check out the dv5t thread

    you're using 32bit right?

atm, im on a quest to find a good driver that wont fail when im playing video games

all the driveres work fine during web surfing/movie watching etc. but when the time comes to gaming, the driver sometimes fails and leads to bsod...has this happened to anyone else? or is this problem more than just the driver?

Well I just installed the 177.98 on mine so far I accomplished my goal of getting the WEI to read higher than my dv9700t (Personal annoyance).

Gotta run out now but will run it through some benchmark tests later on today

Would any of you recommend 32-bit or 64-bit version of windows for gaming? I just ordered my dv5t with t9400, 3 gbs of ram, and 9600m gt and opted for the 32-bit version of vista

it sounds like it is more than drivers...
i am playing cod4 fable supreme commander gears of war and bioshock and i have never had a problem...
gears used to crash but it is because it is a buggy game...not drivers my friend...
177.73 is proven to be veeerrryyy stable so it sounds like you are having other issues...try getting patches for your game...it may be a compatibility issue with something else...

if you answer the questions i asked earlier and give some more information about your problems we might be able to help you...

otherwise you can continue on your endless search for stability that will never come

Does anyone know if the 177.98 will work with a UK version of the DV5 series? Last time I checked my graphics drivers the signature had (UK) on the end so I wonder if installing this would screw things up.

I've only played Spore so far and I don't experience choppyness but I may find some if I play higher end games in fututre. For the moment is it worth trying to update the preinstalled drivers.

I guess I could just try installing 177.98 and if it screws things up I could rollback the driver, unless these things can cause perminant damage...? :/

My machine doesn't have the 9600GT but this morning I tried to watch I Am Legend Blue Ray and it says VGA not available when using the latest laptop2go driver. I had to back out to the OEM HP drivers to get it to play. I also googgled and found someone else was having this problem too

Blue Wolf - it'll work as long as you have a nVidia graphics card in your computer and no it won't cause permanent damage. The best way to remove video drivers is to boot into safe mode and uninstall them from there. I'd recommend this before any upgrade of video drivers to clear out the old one(s) as they sometimes leave fragments behind...

uncming - was the latest driver you used WHQL certified? If not, it could be a HDCP issue (possibly) from a non-certified driver....

Someone please help... I'm so tired with this dv5t
I'm using 177.98 driver from laptopvideo2go.com, but none of the overclock utility would recognize the card (9600M GT), so they can't read the right clock speeds. I've tried Rivatuner 2.10 as someone suggested, ATITool, and Powerstrip. nTune wouldn't even install, and crashes my computer indefinitely. I rolled back to the HP stock driver, but same things happened. Only GPU-Z seems to read the right clock speed.
Any suggestion on what the problem may be?

I'm using 175.88 which was the latest driver update from the HP site a week ago. I seem to get pretty decent results, the only thing that really bugs me is the shadow effects. Any game I play (C&C Kanes Wrath, GRiD, Spore), when I have shadows on high, the game is choppy (<15 fps) but when I put it on low or turn it off, I get a playable 25 fps. GRiD runs especially well with most settings on high and some bit of AA and a resolution of 1680 x 1050.

But nobody else is using this same driver? Odd...

Edit: Just went to the nVidia site and tried the "Let nvidia find drivers for my product" and it worked and told me that HP "requires" that I download drivers from their site. :O
