Okay, so I've been doing some research on HP's new products this year (holding off for something new from HP before I sell my Acer see).

Their marketing division really have me scratching my head here...

So apparently, we (I'm in Hong Kong BTW) get the new dv3, tm2-2xxxtx, and Compaq CQ42/CQ62 before the States... while the other laptop lines (dv5, dv6, dv7, dm4t) are nowhere to be seen. What's even more bizarre, HP decided to sell the Envy 14 here with the Core i7 720QM and 8GB of memory for almost US$2000. Are they really so content in ripping us off? Putting a Core i7 quad in a semi-portable laptop is rather retarded imho, and don't even get me started with 8GB RAM..

Luckily they're selling the tm2 refresh for a decent price (~US$1150 for a Core i5 430UM+3GB RAM+free Office Starter config) so there's a good chance I'd pick that up, but really... is there something going on in HP that I'm unaware of? Foxconn somehow the culprit?

I don't know about ripping people off, but HP sure is sucking in the US when it comes to debuting new systems.

Best Buy in the US finally got the new dv6's, but they're the ugly yellowish-silver color. They're not putting their best products forward (and I'm not just talking specs) for people to touch and see. Are in-store sales only a small percentage of their profits or something? I think most people who buy online probably at least go see it in-store first...

HP's largest business is companies buying a multitude of computers at once which is probably why they don't care as much about their retail business especially overseas. And display models cost money, so they'd rather just put up a 360 view of the laptop online than have one chained down in your local retail store

The envy 14 can also drive two external monitors.

Okay, scratch that... HP just released their entire refreshed Pavilion today. Saw a couple of display models, was somewhat impressed with the build quality and looks. A pity they chose Core i7 720QM for the dv6 and dv7 though, the demo unit felt a little too hot. Not uncomfortable to the touch perse, but definitely getting there. Say, how does the Core i7 720QM compare with the Core i5 520M? Significantly less battery life?
