G60-458DX Model used here for example. Some knowledge of laptop disassembly required.

Now then, this here laptop i bought used yesterday. Turn it on, everything works only it is hotter than an oven on my lap within minutes of being turned on.

So, i get to it. HP put the fan and heatsink on the bottom with no bottom cover for service like this one, hence you have to tear it all the way down to get to it. Sonamabishes.

Filthy friggin heatsink, choked with lint, hair, whatnots. Use a children's toothbrush to clean that out.

This is what it should look like, see through

Clean that fan as well with a brush

While you're at it, clean the case bottom too

There you have it, put it all together and it should work beautifully, nice and cool

keyboards are like 7 bux on ebay. Not much to upgrade on a g60, processor maybe, if you can find a core2duo.

Ugh, I'm in the middle of servicing my sister's G60-235DX (ordered a C2D T9600, new battery, and another 2GB DIMM for 4GB total for under $100) and I'll be disassembling this bad boy to get to the CPU. Easy enough, honestly. But yeah, this thing (like many other mid-2000's HP laptops) gets ridiculously hot. I'm surprised it it still POSTs to be honest. My mom has a dv5z-1000 that I had to reflow with a heat gun to get to POST and boot again, then I upgraded that to the highest support AMD CPU. On the dv5z, I also bent a poorly-placed aluminum "shroud" that blocked much of the CPU fan from taking in air near the airflow inlet on the laptop. After I reassembled the thing, I could hardly hear the fan rev up, and the laptop was extremely cool. I'm guessing I'll be doing the same work on this G60.

I bet there are a lot of small computer shop techs that get a ton of these dead things from overheating issues.
