Being in Canada, I'm forced to buy a pre-configured model if I want an HP notebook and what I have to choose from is located here:

    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/ho/WF25a/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3744231.html

In particular, the dv7-1023cl (FF216UA) & dv7-1020us (FF214UA) are configured most closest to the specs I want however the latter is missing bluetooth, has a worse warranty and costs $50 more than the former while the rest of the specs seems identical. So, I'm wondering what the difference is between the two models and after I buy one would it be difficult to replace the processor with a faster one? I'm also not terribly happy with the screen choices offered either, would I be able to buy a WSXGA+ screen part from the US and install it myself?

    Thanks.

You can probably swap the screens depending on your skill level. I would think HP wouldn't look kindly on it in terms of your warranty. Didn't seem to be much of a difference in the machines.

Ahh ok thanks, does anyone know if swapping processors is as easy as adding memory on these?

No, it would be harder. Memory is meant to be fairly easy to upgrade, whereas the CPU is not something commonly upgraded. If you really want a specifically customized version, you may want to look into a mail forwarding service, and just order the customized version through HP's US site. However, remember that if you need to send the laptop to HP for repairs, you'll have to use a mail forwarding service as well.

Thanks, I have but it's really expensive, not to mention the headaches with it and using an out of country CC at the checkout and so on.. :(
