What's the longest you've ever gone before replacing a notebook?

I figured just for fun I'd see who keeps their machines the longest. The thought occured to me today as I was renewing the warranty on my Compaq Evo N620c. This will be year number 5 for this machine coming up (and I will keep renewing as long as they'll let me, I was told the limit is 7 years), and I see no reason to replace it. It's ATI Radeon 7500 is outdated but still runs almost everything I throw at it. Anyone else here keep notebooks this long?

No way, I've kept my notebook for two years and I found it to be far too limiting about a month ago so I built a desktop to replace it although I will still be keeping my notebook.

The most I have had a notebook for is 4 years. The outdated stuff really gets to me. Newer applications require newer processors.

My zv6000 is 3 years old in a couple days (it has a Athlon 3800 in it, so its still a fairly decent machine). I plan on replacing it as soon as I get my hands on a half decent quad core with a very good CPU with good battery life (which prolly means I'll be waiting till Core i7 (or whatever mobile Nehalem is called).

i've had my dv6000z (Turion 64 X2 TL-52, GeForce Go 7200) for 2 years and counting. will probably not replace it in the anytime soon (i.e. within the next year or two) because i don't play FPS games, and it runs everything that i use it for. the dv5's look pretty darn tempting...but it'll probably take some kind of killer deal or major crash for me to switch over.

I have two laptops right now.

One is four years old, and the other is the dv4t, which is less than a week old.

Compaq R4000 that will be 3 years old this december and still going strong. I think every 3-4 years is reasonable for a laptop.

I still have a Pentium 2 500 MHz laptop with 92MB of ram lol. It ran pretty good up until a few months ago when the entire LCD bezel broke away from the rest of the laptop.

I was typing with one hand and holding the monitor in the other.

I'm just fascinated by technology. It wasn't my main computer or anything.

I usually replace/sell/trade my laptops every six months or so. Usually it doesnt cost me a thing.
